Velvet Fleet
The Velvet Fleet is a mafia composed of the various species of the galaxy. It is unique as it is the only criminal organisation that does not have a specific World to call home (e.g. The Miserly Ones originate from Telea, the The Wild Araneae Gang originate from Malum Auctori, etc.), and are instead found to be evenly spread out within all corners of the Pontision System. Because of this, they are believed to be the largest crime ring in the galaxy when considering their numbers of members, and rumours suggest that they never turned away an applicant for the fleet.
The Velvet Fleet primarily engages in: financial crime, violent crime, arms trafficking, protection rackets, coercion and extortion. They mark their vessels with a symbol that looks like a vertical series of Vs that become progressively more narrow, often with a burgundy colour scheme. Some of the higher ranking members will get tattoos of this symbol and the most important members have it displayed prominently on their back. They are headed by Admiral Ajax Eastburn, and have several squadrons each with their own subordinate admirals. Each squadron has a number of divisions, which are similarly headed by members of importance. It is this position that a captain of a given ship reports to. Squadrons of the Velvet Fleet are typically composed of similar if not the same classes of spaceships and cruisers, and are thus able to reposition and restructure their fleet depending on the scenario. However, the Velvet Fleet are rarely seen together, with squadrons and divisions often being spread out across the galaxy.
