Monotherium

The Monotherium was a supranational union of the Five Lands and their kingdoms into one political union. Founded on the principals of feudal industrialisation and limited democracy, the Monotherium was created originally as a thought experiment by liberal minded aristocrats during the Democracy Revolution. What followed was over a century of debate before the Monotherium treaty was officially signed. This bonded the kingdoms of the Five Lands together as allies, and united a previously divided population and continent.

Great Chamber

The legislative body of the Monotherium. In keeping with the principals of limited democracy, the membership of the body was divided into thirds. One third was made up of all royals and nobles across the Plateau, another third was comprised of those appointed various regional administrations, while the final third was directly elected from those who owned their own property. This meant that although the chamber was often dominated by royalists and conservatives, a vast amount of liberals and socialists were allowed access by virtue of being elected or appointed.
Throughout the Chamber's history it was comprised of four caucuses. The Royalists, who represented the landed aristocracy and was made up entirely of appointed members and nobles. The Tories, who represented poorer agrarian and rich urban interests, they had a few elected members and were often the balance of power between the Royalists and the Whigs. The Whigs, who represented the middle classes of skilled tradesmen, merchants, and other notable industries, they usually tried to push for further democratic reform and a more market economy, they were often successful with the later and unsuccessful with the former thanks to the Tories. The Radicals, who represented the working classes, as such they were often underrepresented in the chamber, they usually pushed through a raft of socialist and republican ideals which were usually opposed by many other members of the Ahamber, they were considered the main opposition during the Chambers and were tolerated due to the fact that banning them would cause greater problems.

Downfall

After Max Kangus' March for Peace speech, the actions by the Radicals to oppose the war effort could no longer be ignored by the other members. In an almost fifty/fifty decision (with several prominent Tories and Liberals opposing the measure), Kangas, alongside the Radical leadership, was censured and removed from office. This caused the remaining Radical caucus to withdraw from the chamber. They were followed a few days later by half the Whig caucus, in response to the Sedition Act. The Royalists in the chamber, now with a majority, refused to authorise those seats to be filled. For the rest of the Chamber's existence it became a rubber stamping body for the Monotherium government led by President Zebadiah II.
The make up of the Chamber before the expulsion of the Radicals is below:
