Conurbation (political)

The Conurbation is a region of the Sunlands located in the east of the Land, bordered by Fastra to the south and Boodah to the north. The region is dominated by the Council Conurbation the capital of the Plateau, as well as the second-largest, most populous, city on the Plateau. Though most of the region outside the conurbation is agriculture and grassland, various villages and small towns do exist. The region is the only one on the Plateau without its own unified government. Instead the Council Conurbation has its own system, while the smaller settlements rely on support from the Combined Council of the Plateau if they have any issues. Most of the settlements elect mayors and small councils as per the Rivush tradition.

Structure

The region does not have a governing structure as other regions do. Each settlement has its own governance, and all answer to the Combined Council of the Plateau

Assets

The water from the River Fastra has always provided the region with a fresh supply of water. The various farms provide food and raw materials. Mining has always been a rare practice in the region. The main source of income for the region comes from the Council Conurbation itself with its large number of factories and financial speculators and investors.

History

The region was founded following the end of the Tricorne War in an attempt to provide a clear boundary around the new capital of a democratic Plateau. All land north of the River Fastra was taken from Boodah, while all land south of the river was taken from Fastra.

Demography and Population

6,879,542 live in the Council Conurbation. While 400,056 live outside it. This is a total population of 7,279,598. Although a heavily multicultural region, the majority of the population are of either Rivush or Fastrian ethnicity.

Religion

The two main religions of the Plateau, the Church of Gaia, and the Old Faith, both have a presence in the region. Though as the Old Faith has declined in popularity its presence is only token at best, and only within the Council Conurbation.

Agriculture & Industry

The conurbation's economy is focused entirely on the Plateau's industrial and financial output, though some agriculture is done in the region not enough to warrant note.

Trade & Transport

The Conurbation, thanks to the Council Conurbation, is a heavily trafficked region. As such it has connections to the neighbouring Boodah and Fastra regions, and through them transport to the other Lands and regions of the Plateau.

Education

Education standards within the Conurbation region is quite high thanks in part to investiment from the high taxes imposed on the richest in the Conurbation. However outside the Council Conurbation, the Conurbation region itself is mostly ignored due to their low population.

Infrastructure

The Conurbation region is dominated by the three trade roads that merge into the Council Conurbation, as well as the high speed trains that provide much public transport. Road networks are quite clearly marked, although country roads can be dangerous at night.
