Tomias Flitterfoot is the gnome who killed Lord Kourend Salmonpuddle out of revenge brought upon a lie. He was a private eye from Felicity who planned to elope with Nymira Fenfyx before coming across Kourend. The story from his perspective goes as such:
Tomias grew bored with Felicity. His career of investigating the petty relationship problems of the Tumultian upper class grew tiresome, and the gruesomeness of the alternative within the lower districts was off-putting. He decided to see if his investigative talents could be better used elsewhere. South-eastern Tumult was seeing a lot of issues at the time, so he decided to try internationally for work. This brought him to Val'ul.
As he was not a native to the magic city, he had a difficult time gaining entry into the wealthier city-center. But a couple of years working for Val'ul's border guard, as well as many favorable reviews from moderately reputable mages, gained him visa entry into the inner-city. Before he got much work though, he met Nymira Fenfyx by chance. This sparked a secret romance. After a few years of incognito courting, the two decided to elope. They chose to do it in Vigil, Tumult, as it was far from the critical eyes of the Val'ul archmage council.
They could not be seen travelling together, so Nymira went on ahead using her diplomatic status as cover, while Tomias gathered his things. They were not planning on returning to Val'ul anytime soon, so he had to liquidate what he built up there. But this is where things began to go wrong. Once he arrived in Vigil, he learned that Nymira was killed. Since there was a brewing conflict with the Dormant going on in Vigil, he believed the lie of his informant, Kourend. Saddened by this, he left town blaming himself for bringing her unknowingly to her death as he convinced her to leave the safety of Val'ul's magic walls. He returned to Felicity, and used his savings to reopen his private eye business. He planned to have work distract him from the loss of Nymira.
It never occurred to him to check whether Nymira was truly dead. Perhaps it was fate dragging towards this dark path, because his first job back as a P.I. was at the Felicity Ball to spy on some rich nobles wife when he saw Nymira again. And she was dancing with the lying informant Kourend Salmonpuddle. He sought to confront them then and there, perhaps it would have fixed the misunderstanding, but on his way over he bumped into a female soldier. That soldier was infected with the Mark of the Beast, which spread onto Tomias. The curse affected his thinking, and he began to believe the most cruel betrayals from Nymira, believing she simply chose the better option when it came around.
Thus Tomias began plotting his revenge. He could not brute force it, as Kourend was a part of a group of powerful adventurers and a noble of Felicity. He needed more power. Luckily, the case of a serial killer came across his lap. His investigation quickly found the rogue Seer's Sight warlock named Xylene, and he learned that Xylene was looking for the First Edition of The Wish, The Elixir, and the Philosophy, as he believed that their was truth hidden behind the fairy tale. Knowing the fairy tale, Tomias wondered if the tale of the genie in it was true. The power of three wishes could come in handy. But he could not just take them and make another enemy out of a powerful warlock, so he devised another plan. He hired Kourend and his party, pretending that the past was all water under the bridge, and got them to track down Xylene, hoping to have them fight each other. He knew Kourend would win, but it would tie up loose ends.
He stole Xylene's research and fled south, leaving a letter for Kourend behind so that he could know his reckoning was coming. His quest was grueling, and if his motives were not so impure, it may have been considered heroic. He travelled south to the Dormant Lands via the Seer Sight pass. While this avoided the major conflict areas with the Southern Farmlands, it still meant he had to travel alone through the fey lands and the devastation of the Ankou. But he eventually made it to the Sleeping Docks and hired some mercenaries to go into the Bone Mountains. That region has become a lot safer since the Dormant moved in, as their policy with the orc was eradication. So, Tomias found the cave of the Wish, paid his mercenaries, and went in.
There, Tomias found the Wish, a genie, and used the three wishes he got from it to defeat Kourend and get Nymira back. None of the wishes worked as he wanted though. His first wish was for Nymira to break Kourend's heart. As they were not romantic in the least, the wish simply caused Nymira to break the connection Kourend had with Balmerrait, killing his long time companion pet rat. The second wish for Tomias and Nymira to be one caused their souls to splice together, a serious no-no along the Path of Veritas that even Neih intervened. The third wish, after Nymira was killed and Tomias had nothing left was for Kourend Salmonpuddle to die. Seeing his noble rival turn to dust satisfied his vengeance, and with that Tomias took his own life by jumping into the abyss (as they were fighting due to Neih's interference within the pocket dimension of the Wish's lantern).
