The Pregenerates

In Lunis the Pregenerates posed a consistent challenge to the cult of The Absolute and the myth of Luniite Infinity--the idea that the civilization of Lunis always was and always would be. For most thinking people, The Pregenerates had clearly predated The Reading of the Law and the birth of Lunis, although they seemed to have left no enduring civilization, their societies confined to enclaves of learning and research.   Physically, The Pregenerates were taller than their human counterparts and seemed to be made from a semi-inorganic substance. They were physically superior in almost every way--faster, stronger, and more agile. Yet, they were largely peaceful people with no imperial impulses. That the Luniites were able to subjugate and enslave them can be explained only by the superior numbers of the former, and a penchant for cruelty that The Pregenerates simply didn't possess. Another theory suggests that many Pregenerates willingly entered Luniite service in order to gain data on the dominant culture   Blue-skinned with silvery hair and large eyes, The Pregenerates dressed in tight clothes made from a strange fabric and often brocaded with elaborate colors. Their fingers were long and thin, their voices soft and melodic. Those who studied or befriended were immediately labeled apostates by The Tyrant of Penitence, and often executed; any knowledge of Pregenerate culture was simply too antithetical to the conventional conception of the Luniite Empire.   Throughout the five-hundred years of Luniite rule, the Pregenerates were oppressed and consistently brutalized, and although they survived, they made little progress with their scientific endeavors. The renaissance of pre-Luniite Pregenerate culture came to a swift end. When Luniis fell, the Pregenerates went underground or retreated to fortified domes made from a seashell-like substance. Regardless, they could not survive the natural disasters that wrecked the surface of The Orphan World and in Fallen Lunis they are all but extinct. Even still, prejudice against the Pregenerates prevails in the primitive societies of the fallen survivors. A more forward-thinking people would certainly realize the potential benefits of allying with the surviving Pregenerates and the sharing of knowledge towards the rejuvenation of the wasteland. Sadly another survivor of the Terminus Apocalypse seems to be Luniite arrogance.
