As South As South Goes

The myth of the southern most point of this world, where the physical realm passes into the spiritual realm is as old as mortal creation itself.
To the devil it was to be the way back to his home and he led his demons in a giant fleet of ships from first haven bay south where they fought the gods at the gate between the worlds. The fleet was destroyed and the devil and the remaining demons had to retreat the the Land. This attack is said to have been the reason for the gods to create the seven mortal races as guardians of the demons .

the wrecked demon ships are said to still be piled up just before the gate between the worlds, the wood now rotten to dirt and all that remains a scattered group of islands that no mortal is allowed to set foot on.

Historical Basis

During the years of learning the high spirits passed this knowledge on to the mortal races in order to teach them modesty and warn them about the dangers of hubris.
However as no one ever sailed this far south and returned to tell what he saw, the islands soon passed into myth after the departing of the high spirits.
