The Ocean

I don't want to outright name the media inspiration for my world, for a number of self-serving reasons. For one, I suspect it's still too obvious. For two, I've never gotten over feeling embarrassed at having written a novel-length fanfic. For three, I burned out on the fandom years ago, and am irrationally afraid of getting pushback from current fans. For four, I'm trying to develop it as a distinct world all its own, which I worry won't happen if it's constantly being compared to the source material.
