Tecrand

Tecrand is a deconstruction company based on Gieljed. It prepares construction sites by removing existing buildings and shaping the landscape. Any salvageable material is kept and sold for reuse.

Structure

Tecrand is led by a board that oversees the company's operations throughout the Cluster Islands. They are advised by six division heads, each of which has charge of the company's projects on a single island. Individual projects are managed by a three-person team: one coordinating the tools and materials, another the plans and permits, and the last the personnel. On a worksite itself, two levels of supervisors direct the work crews.

Public Agenda

Tecrand frequently dismantles buildings and other structures that have been damaged in accidents or natural disasters.  Cognizant of profiting from what often are tragic circumstances, the board maintains a charitable fund to support people recovering from the destruction of their homes.

Tecrand is the leading company in the ground recovery industry, and one of the ten largest corporations in the Cluster Islands.  It has offices and warehouses on six of the major islands.

History

Tecrand was originally founded as a stone quarry, producing limestone and marble for civic construction. In 1955 Vol, after a heavy monsoon season triggered multiple landslides on the opposite side of Gieljed, the company briefly stopped work and sent its mining machinery to help dig out the debris. Over the next few decades it invested more into ground recovery, and so was able to survive when the main quarry petered out in the 1990s Vol. With the construction of the conduits, Tecrand could extend its operations to other islands, transporting surplus material and equipment to sites that needed them without the delays and costs that would have been incurred in shipping them by sail. It still maintains a few small quarries, but no longer relies on the production of raw building materials.
