Session 47: The Tilting Tower

General Summary

The eyes of the portrait seem to follow you as you walk up.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever."
A jaded Gnome now immune to the horrors of Barovia
Once again the Wandering Apocalypse faced their greatest enemy: navigation. Deciding that continuing to fall down the tower wasn't going to work, and disregarding the notion that they could just crawl up, they decide to take the other tower of Ravenloft and cross the bridge to the heart chamber. Aided by excellent descriptions and a vast directional knowledge of the DM, these walls turn out to be much more challenging than anticipated.
After a leisurely stroll around the wall they arrive back at the original heart tower, to their great dismay. They continue down the outside of the main building, but soon come upon slain commoners. They don't care and set on, coming upon a walking suit of armor that readily charges them. They fight, figure out that suits of armour are pretty tough, and instead opt to throw it off the wall. Goddammit.
On they go, up the other tower, ignoring absolutely everything. Ansgar Tyr gets eaten by a rug of smothering for a bit, and they completely ignore a spooky painting and any doors on their way. Finally, they come upon the crystal heart itself.
Of course, the heart is protected. As they start hammering into it, the halberds surrounding it come alive, and shadowed beings start skittering up the wall of the tower. Fidchell was unlucky enough to be thrown down from the bridge outside the tower. Inside, Ansgar Tyr and Darzin lose their footing in one of the heartbeats and are thrown down the main tower. Considering they've run out of featherfalls, this is kind of a problem, were it not for the heart of the cards. Vines grow up the side of the castle and inside through the door at astonishing speed, and manage to grab both by the ankles about 120 feet above the ground floor, leaving them dangling. As they look down, an old hag grins at them from the ground floor before vanishing into the shadows.
