Personal history

Ansgar was born into the travelling merchant tribe of Tyr. This Tribe of Valdori people traversed the lands of this world to sell their goods and follow the star Tyr. Unlike other Valdori tribes the people of Tyr were never known for their survival skills or combativeness but rather as merchants, selling goods from far away lands. Ansgar father, Rax Tyr the Wise, had specialized himself in the subject of knowledge. He sold books, scrolls and items that were somehow involved in great stories that he masterfully told to his customers. Through the years Rax taught Ansgar as much as he could about his trade and took him along to many different cities. It didn’t take long before Ansgar decided to follow in his father’s footstep and when he became an adult he decided to go out on his own to gather even more knowledge. He made his own contacts, got his own cart and business seemed to go well. He lived this life for several years and occasionally ran into his dad and his other tribesmen that were following the trail of Tyr. But after so many years he noticed that he already knew most knowledge and stories that the cities had to offer him and if he wished to grow as a person, he needed to change his ways.   At the age of 24 he decided to join an excavation party that was on its way to an old tower somewhere in a dessert. This tower was supposed to have been the home of a long-forgotten wizard that collected trinkets and books over the span of his lifetime. The journey went quite well and sure as it was they eventually found the tower. While most members of the excavation party were interested in the magic items and strange artefacts, Ansgar was more interested in the enormous book collection that the wizard had gathered over the years. It took him several days to find the most interesting and well-kept volumes and load them in his cart. This should be able to keep him provided him with stories and income for years to come but his hope seemed to be in vain. For the party was tracked by a small group of bandits and were raided during the night. Most guards were slain before anybody knew what was happening and the other members of the excavation were killed or gravely injured. Ansgar never learned to fight or defend himself and decided to hide behind some rocks only to see how his companions were murdered and their loot plundered. The raiders inspected Ansgar’s cart and after stealing the little gold he had they decided to torch it since they had little interested in things such as books. So there he was, all alone in the dessert, looking in despair as he saw his lifework go up in flames while the raiders rode off with their spoils under the starry night.   Left for dead he dropped to his knees next to the smouldering remains of his cart and pleaded to the star of Tyr that was visible above the top of the ruined tower. He wished that he wasn’t so weak, that he could defend himself and others, that he could stop scum from doing such horrendous deeds so that he may pursuit his dreams of knowledge and wisdom. Unknown was it to him that this time someone was actually listening. On that location in the Shadowfell there also stood a tower containing great wisdom but the occupant of this tower was not dead, far from. He heard how this being from another plane was pleading and somehow he was moved by his request. For the desires of this powerful being were not so different from those of Ansgar. He was also interested in stories and wisdom further this power but he had read every book and heard every story in the vast reaches of his tower and therefor he was utterly bored. So this entity reached out to Ansgar and offered him a deal. He would give him powers and knowledge that would allow him to continue his journey and in return Ansgar would provide him with new stories and wisdom to entertain this being. The Vandori man in the dessert pondered for a moment and finally accepted this request by this being he continued to call Tyr and so Ansgar Tyr became enlightened.   A week after the excavation party had been raided Ansgar Tyr the Enlighted entered through the gates of the city he had left several weeks before with the loot of the raiders on his cart. The tracks were easy enough to follow since they never expected any resistance from whatever was left of the expedition and with the things that Tyr had thought Ansgar, retrieving the items seemed to be quite a trivial task. Of all the events that had recently happened, the thing that surprised him the most was how little remorse he had felt while dealing with the raiders. He expected it to be harder for him but alas it seemed to do him very little. Has it always been like this or had this side of him developed after he had met the being called Tyr? He did not really care as he continued his journey to honour the pact he had made with entity in the tower.
