Session 43: The first of the shadows

General Summary

Let's play, let's play!
The Wandering Apocalypse set forth upon and over Yester Hill , with before them the gruesome image of a Gulthias Tree. A single corpse swayed in its trunks, belonging to the druid they met so long ago upon this very same hill, its eyes, ears and tongue taken and left here weeks ago. Small tendrils ran over the rope towards the corpse, and the tree had since had its fair share.
The Wandering Apocalypse set to work. A fireball dislodged the corpse and the trunk it was attached to, and the others started hammering on the tree afterwards. The ancient wood being as resistant as it is, it took a good while to fell the tree, but they managed eventually. The gnarled wood revealed an entrance to an underground system below.
It was down here that they faced their greatest foe yet: a wall of plants with a small chasm behind it. After several valiant attempts they managed to pass, only to find none other than Zana already there. Zana however seemed a somewhat changed man after his sudden disappearing act in the Amber Temple. Combat erupted, and after a long fight the fairy dissolved into shadows, leaving them access to the shrine as well as his magic staff. The magic staff was promptly thrown into a nearby hole.
Cleansing the shrine proved somewhat more difficult, as they realized that they had no clue how to do this. Through incredibly luck skill, they however managed to find a passage in the Tome of Strahd detailing this shrine. Up they went to pick up the corpse that they previously chucked aside. Down they went to put it on the altar. Out came the roots, accepting its first pure sacrifice in hundreds of years, reinvigorating its powers ever so little.
And as such, the Wandering Apocalypse actually managed to luck skill their way through cleansing the second fane.
