Nidavellir (The Dark Fields)

Home of the Dwarves.

Geography

Nidavellir is an extremely rocky planet, with most of it's organisms dwelling in it's many canyons and valleys. However, it is not a barren planet at all. In fact Nidavellir is quite lush and beautiful, full of heart just like it's inhabitants.

Ecosystem

The dwarves and many of Nidavellir's natural inhabitants dwell in the low lands of the valleys and canyons, as well as within labrythian caverns that stretch for miles underground. Creatures of this world seem to fall into one of two extremes. Either they navigate the intense geography through exceptional climbing and flying abiliites, or they have adapted to be incredibly tough and hardy, able to make the most of whatever life gives them down in the lower fields.

Localized Phenomena

Deep within the caverns of Nidavellir, the dwarves have built a subterranean city revolving around their beloved Forge Worldsoul.

Climate

On the surface, Nidavellir experiences extreme colds and extreme heats. Winter brings heavy snow and summer brings extreme heat, with only very short rainy seasons in between.

History

The Aesir stumbled upon Nidavellir during a time when it's Dwarven inhabitants had never even dreamed of exploring the stars, much less meeting other cultures out there. At the time, Dwarven society was naturally trusting, and they welcomed the Aesir into the deepest parts of their lives without hesitation. Unfortunately, the Aesir did not return the Dwarven warmness and hospitality. Slowly, piece by piece, they infiltrated the Dwarven political structure and set up their own puppet government in order to exploit their innovation and invention and build exceedingly advanced weapons of war to use against the Jotnar. They essentially forced the Dwarves into indentured servitude through trickery and deception, a strategy they had adopted from the Alven government. By the time the Dwarves realized what was happening, it was too late. The Old Aesir kept the Dwarves in submission with the same weapons the Dwarves had built them.   However, unlike many of the other cultures the Old Aesir enslaved, the Dwarves thrived under this pressure. Their society's development and technological capabilities was never slowed or deterred by the Aesir's presence, only leeched upon. When Ragnorok removed their oppressive leaders, the Dwarves were free to enjoy the benefits of all they had accomplished in peace. The Dwarves have returned to living their simple and creatively driven lives, but with a healthy amount of mistrust for those who lie beyond the Bi-Frost gate.
