Mesopotamia System

The Mesopotamia System is a settled, a major, relatively well developed system that serves as the nominal capital system of the Mensa League. It is host to a a few major industrial asteroid mining operations that provide much of the mineral resources utilized by the League's industries. It also serves as a significant trade hub for the Gemini Sector's Coreward border region. Mesopotamia is also home to one of the larger fleets of ships in the League's possession.

Major Celestial Bodies

Primary Star

UWP-S 89 Eta Ki "Mesopotomia" G4V
Mesopotamia is a yellow, main sequence star. It is known for having unusually active sunspot activity, something which makes the crucially important mining activities in the system significantly more difficult at times.

Major Orbiting Bodies

1 Enkidu

USP-2 - Large GG
Enkidu is the largest of Mesopotamia's moons, and that which is closest to the star. Its was initially used as a major fueling station, but eventually became a hub for the terraforming of other worlds within the system.

1b-14 Lagash
UWP - Y300316-B
  • 4,806 km diameter, approximately .29 g gravity, No atmosphere, No hydrosphere
  • Population: 8,251, Tech-level 11, Type Y/X Spaceport
  • Government: Corporate (Ishkal Mining Corporation), Law Level: 6
  • Trade Codes: Va Lo Mi
Lagash is a modest fuel scooping and processing facility owned and operated by the Ishkal Mining Corporation serving as the company's primary logistical hub within the system.
1c-15 Shiruppak
UWP - F559548-B
  • 7788 km diameter, approximately .66 g gravity, Thin atmosphere, Hydrosphere comprises approximately 52% of planetary surface
  • Population: 676,125, Tech-level 12, Type F/B Spaceport with Military Base
  • Government: Captive Government (Military Rule), Law Level: 8
  • Trade Codes: Ni Ml
Shiruppak has been taken over by the military of Mesopotamia, and of the Mensa League. It is essentially one of the largest naval depots in the Gemini Sector, with several berths for the supply of major warships for the local navy, though it lacks some of the industrial capacity required to be a proper naval facility, and must import ship parts from elswhere.

3 Uruk

UWP - ABF69C7-C
  • 17642 km diameter, approximately 1.24g gravity, Corrosive atmosphere, Hydrosphere comprises approximately 58% of planetary surface
  • Population: 7,189,724,094 Tech-level 12, Type A Starport
  • Government: Totalitarian Oligarchy (Single party state), Law Level: 7
  • Trade Codes: Fl Hi Ht
Uruk is the capital of the Mesopotamia system, a heavily industrialized, highly populous world. It also serves as the defacto seat of government for the Mensa League. It is currently ruled by a single party state known locally as the Mesopotamian Islamic Republic, which is chiefly concerned with maintaining stability, suppressing more progressive religious movements with its own brand of conservative orthodoxy, and maintaining the good health of the economy.
2a-7 Eridu
UWP - G565766-B
  • 7,742 km diameter, approximately .64 g gravity, Earthlike atmoshpere, Hydrosphere comprises approximately 54% of planetary surface
  • Population: 654,120,122, Tech-level 11, Type G/D Spaceport
  • Government: Captive Government, Law Level: 6
  • Trade Codes: Ag Ri Fa Co
Historically, the world of Eridu was first world to be colonized during the initial settlement of the Mesopotamia, it was eclipsed by Uruk as that world developed its own industries. Now it is an agricultural world providing food supplies for the rest of the system. Despite this transformation it remains one of the more pleasant worlds in Mesopotamia.
2b-9 Ur
UWP - H643627-B
  • 9636 km diameter, approximately .65g gravity, Thin, tainted atmosphere, Hydrosphere comprises approximately 27% of planetary surfrace
  • Population: 2,180,122, Tech-level 11, Type H/E Spaceport
  • Government: Participatory Democracy, Law Level: 7
  • Trade Codes: Ni Po
A Quasi-independent world within the system, Ur is host to a conservative democratic state that aligns itself closely with the system government. However, it struggles to maintain much of an economic base, and the larger corporations in the area have started to consider buying out the local authorities on the world.

5 Inner Belt

UWP - F000636-B
  • Planetoid Belt
  • Population: 4,210,560, Tech-level 11, Type B/F Spaceport
  • Government: Cartel of Corporations, Law Level: 6
  • Trade Codes: As Na Ni Va Mi
The Inner Belt is a heavily populated planetoid belt with a central corporate hub sponsoring several ongoing major asteroid mining operations. Life is difficult and dangerous for the inhabitants of the inner belt, but is much freer than life under the stodgy government ruling the system as a whole, and many sign up to work the belt just for this.

6 Ishtar

USP-2 - Small GG
6a-2 Planetary Ring UWP YR00000-0

7 Outer Belt

UWP - F000416-B
  • 7 Planetoid Belt
  • Population: 15,125, Tech-level 11, Type G/D Spaceport
  • Government: Corporate (Ishkal Mining Corporation), Law Level: 6
  • Trade Codes: As Ni Va Mi
The Outer Belt is much quieter than the inner belt. Owned entirely by the Ishkal Mining Corporation, the outer belt serves as a major harvesting hub for the more exotic and harder to find resources that can be found at the outer edges of the system.
