Lerato Sibiya

Lerato

Lerato, one of the original ten survivors in her group and Jessica’s high school best friend, were hauling an unconscious brunette dressed in what could have been a beautiful dress at one point. It was now worn out, scorched with a pair of heavily worn tights underneath.

As they hauled the brunette towards the control room they walked past the body of the skinny front runner whose head had been blown off. Jessica was sure she had seen him once or twice but they’d never spoken, now they never would.

There was another woman, equally as ragged as the brunette in her hands, laying next to him. She had curly short hair shaved much like his own, her skin was a far lighter shade of coco. She was crying her heart out while holding his still bleeding body tight.

Jessica could feel her eyes welling up. If she had ran ahead like she always had then she’d be the headless form lying there, but unlike him there would be no hysterical woman balling her eyes out at her. Her friends, herself being the flag woman, were too used to ‘the life’. There would be a silence that would linger but they’d move on quickly to get all the work that needed to be done completed then when the time had come there might be a good word, maybe two, if she was lucky.

Jessica rubbed her eyes with her shoulder and continued past the body. Along the circular path of the passage they finally entered the control room. The pair set their injured brunette down and Lerato got to work on tending to her wounds. Three other groups came in holding more of the wounded, they left as soon as they arrived. Luckily by the looks of it no one who lived was too heavily wounded. Though that really wasn’t that special of an achievement, most direct hits killed without trying to maim, the Grunts never cared for prisoners or slowing the enemy down.

Jessica walked around the control room watching Lerato and two others stitching the wounded up. Jessica wasn’t a doctor or anything near one. Technically Lerato wasn’t one either. She’d just chosen it as a subject in high school whereas the closest thing to being a doctor Jessica had chosen was chemical engineering. Lerato was the local doctor, at best she was at the level a talented intern. At the least she was just useful.

Jessica decided to play the hologram to kill time. There was no way she was going back to the entrance to clean the dead bodies out.

“Lerato, how did you switch this hologram on?” Jessica asked looking around the projector, she found nothing.

Lerato looked up and her piercing dark brown eyes met Jessica’s own natural brown knife blades. Lerato’s dreaded braids looked terrible, they were tied a bit looser than they had been before. She looked like she’d been in a slap fight and had lost her sanity after being beaten.

Lerato was almost the exact same height as Jessica but even so Lerato still managed to tower over her like a big sister.
“Shit J’ what’s wrong with you? How did you expect us to work if this room is dark?” said Lerato while stitching a cut on the same brunette’s neck. There were tears running down the sides of the brunette’s face but she didn’t get up. Her fists were clenched but she didn’t move until Lerato finished.

“Fine then, don’t tell me.” Lerato just rolled her eyes and carried on cleaning around the stitched up wound. Leaving Jessica waiting. Lerato had a sumptuous body that made Jessica jealous and feel like she had the body of a pale, often abused, ten year old choir boy in comparison.
“Hey this holographic generator’s pretty big isn’t it?” Jessica said, mostly to herself, naturally Lerato ignored her. Honestly Jessica didn’t mind. She would have ignored herself too by now.

The generator in question was basically a large black pillar similar to the metal squares located all over the ship. It was round and about waist high. Though, unlike the others this one had very clear markings and streaks of a dim blue light emanating from an unknown power source coming from the floor.

Jessica looked around it and under it. Then she noticed something odd. Unlike the other out growths in the ship, on the edges of the hologram machine she could see a thin line about an inch away from the actual edge.

Lerato was finished bandaging the last person when she turned her head and found Jessica pulling at the projector. She sighed resting her hands on her hips.

Mental characteristics

Education

She is one of the smartest people in their orphanage. She was put in the same program as Jessica, something that genuinely pissed both girls off, since they were supposed to stand out of each other.

Employment

She has never been employed for money instead, staying and studying and doing chores for the house mother.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

She wanted nothing more than to be a head surgeon, it was a thing she believed she was good at but had seen in many, many multi flicks saw that a good surgeon.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

She's surprisingly good with her feet and is profoundly intelligent under pressure.

Likes & Dislikes

She likes clothing, looking for what she can get with what's given to them from charities and making things of her own. Even going as far cutting up items and sewing them together from stolen goods, mostly stolen from Jessica and Charmain. She completely dislikes Ricardo, with a somewhat borderline violent hate for the man.

Hygiene

She puts a great deal of effort in being cleans, perhaps not on the level of Xolani, their leader.
