The Void is there where there isn't.
Wherever the source has no influence, is the void, the void surrounds all.
The void is both infinitely small, and infinitely large, within the void all concepts of time and space are irrelevant, it is like a vast ocean that can be sailed across by just placing a boat in it, but a boat can't fit in it because its too small.
Time
Time is not a thing when in the void, when you pass into and then out of the void, it will both have been instantaneous, and you will have spent an infinite amount of time there, which confuses the mortal mind, and that is probably the most dangerous thing about traveling through the void, losing track of when and where you are.
This is caused by the presence of Chronos.
Enter the Void
Getting into the void is easy if you can get out of your shard, but the shards often make their realm in such a way that the edge is nonexistent, and when the edge is reached, you are simply just on the other side of the realm, making it so you can't easily leave.
There are magical ways to make portals to or through the void though, in fact, there are a number of magical ways to make portals, that all work differently, and affect the traveler in different ways.
Void Travel
The first type of portal is a simple breach of the shard shell, that opens a whole in space-time, and lets you out of your home realm, this gets you into the void, but now you have to find another flake of divinity, a realm to go to, and this means you have to know how to navigate the void. If you don't, it's easy to get lost and drift around in the void for eternity, and when you do find your way to another realm, you then have to get into that realm using another portal. Some realms can only be breached in specific places though, so now you have to know where to breach. This all works together to make this method very dangerous unless you have intimate knowledge of where you are going and how to get there, or if you are a very experienced void walker.
The Second type of portal is called a PTP (Place-To-Place) Portal, this portal is much more difficult to make because it requires you to know exactly where you are going, and you are basically poking a hole through the void, straight to your destination, which is much safer, but also much more complex, it is doable for a skilled mage though, if he or she has traveled to the world they wish to go to before.
You are still traveling through the void though, it is just much less dangerous.
The Third type of portal is called a Terhikai Gate, it is a portal that skips the void, and travels directly from one place to another, this can be to a different shard, or to a different place on the same shard. One entity that is known to be able to create such portals is the void god named Kaos, but there are some shards that also posses this skill. Mortals however, lack the magical strength to create such a thing.
Danger
The first method, while most dangerous, is the most commonly used. Those that use this method are dubbed, void walkers. And those that have spent large amounts of time being stuck in the void due to a bad traveling, are called voidlings, because this affects you physically and mentally.
Usually, voidlings are insane. however, the void can also affect you positively, because successfully traversing infinity can make you infinite, or immortal. It can condition your body to be much more resistant to the pains of time. your mind, however, will not benefit from this the same way, as stated before. Some voidlings become immortal, and quite powerful.
Void Gods
As the One created its divine principles, the void, ever the One's opposite, created the void gods, dark reflections of the divine principles.
