Hantheer Culture

The Hantheer's culture is largely a mystery. What is known has been shared by the World Walkers, and what's been kept in documents is even less than that.

Other names

The suffix of a Hantheer's name denotes rank, job, or position in their caste system. Suffix are simple, usually the first two letters of the position. The core of the name is carried over, and the first thing spoken to help an individual retain a sense of identity even when their name changes.

Common Dress code

Hantheer often dress loosely, covering their upper torsos and their midsections, but leave gaps in their clothing to allow for fluid movement. They're fond of sashes, sandals, and loose fitting pants.

Art & Architecture

Fahla'surni is an isolated city-state in its plane, so most of the structures are wooden structures. The city is planned around a great series of bridges, with gardens and farms in the squares between buildings.

Hantheer culture is focused on the Spoken Truth, and when a World Walker is chosen, the chosen's family is honored with gifts and prayers on a weekly basis from the community as a whole.

Hantheer generally come of age at their first century, but it is more often regarded as when they bond with their hart.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Hantheer prefer cremation, with their ashes being used to grow a sapling.

Hantheer do not speak aloud about demons. Demons can only be named by World Walkers, or in writing.

Beauty Ideals

Darker complexions are considered more attractive, as well as large antlers. Freckling is considered attractive, but only when it's not overly dominate on the face.

Gender Ideals

Since both sexes can grow antlers, gender ideals are fairly fluid. Female Hantheer are forced into fawning at least once before they can choose not to have another child. Beyond their parenting duties though, Hantheer move between duties fairly often.

Courtship Ideals

Hantheer often have walking relationships where they only have one serious partner for a time, but many other lovers. Approaching a new lover will depend on caste position. If a member of a lower caste approaches someone higher, then they will approach with gifts from their craft. If a member of a higher caste approaches someone lower, then they will approach with gifts of material value to show their position.

Relationship Ideals

Walking relationships and marriages are common. Central figures in relationships will be determined by caste or by who holds the most emotional threads in a relationship. Abusive relationships are cut out by an individual's whole relationship web, and the offending individual will often be sent into social exile for a period of time.
