Scope
The motivation behind building The Minds of Gods and Demons
Fantasy novel where wizards are the 'good' guys and warlocks are the 'bad' guys. Warlocks get their magic from demons and must sacrifice intelligent beings to them to keep or increase that power.
Wizards get their power from the physical world and the strength of thier magic is based on practice and connection to the world and people, and on their genes as some intelligent beings are decendants of gods and people producing offspring.
The goal of the project
A consistent world for a novel series about good versus evil and the seemingly lowly having more power than they think they do.
The Minds of Gods and Demons's Unique Selling point
Wizards versus warlocks, good versus evil, a hidden truth, a good and gentle boy becoming a man and eventually saving the world when the powerful, but good man fails, through no fault of his own.
Theme
Genre
Warlocks are greedy, deciteful people. Wizards are good, but sometimes misguided people, often blinded by their own want to do good, but also get credited for it.
Demons are cruel and evil, gods are good, but narcissistic.
True power comes from believing in yourself and not desiring credit, but not being falsly humble.
Reader Experience
Gritty but hopeful. Dark and cruel sometimes. Raw but honest.
Reader Tone
Dark, or somewhere in the middle. Parts of the world are pleasant and beautiful, but, the chances of darkness appearing and ripping it all away are ever-present.
Horrilbe and wonderful things happen a lot. Poverty exists, but in most kingdoms is well handled, in some kingdoms it is abject and terrible.
Recurring Themes
Warlocks sacrificing people to demons.
The un-blessed lands and the suffering there, people enslaved and tortured, consumed by demons.
The place of the gods, peaceful serene, beautiful, the gods being very narcisistic and their concern for the people of the world being a kinda of "look how great and benevolent I am, I helped the poor creatures out. I am the best."
The blessed lands being sometime great in kingdoms run by good rulers to corrupt kingdoms where life is hard unless you are rich, still not demon worshipers, but, not good.
Devils in the shadows sowing discontent.
Monsters sometimes roaming the lands.
Character Agency
The main characters have all the power to change the world, even more than the demons and gods that manipulate them.
The least assuming character has all the power in the end, because he listens and finds the truth of things.
Focus
The kingdom of Malminar. Clean, poor exist but they are taken care of. Crime is low and the subjects like the King and the Counsel that rule. Beautiful capital city, farming is good, livestock good. Great economy and export a crop like coffee that only grows here in the mountains. A fruit that is dried and the skin ground to a powder then boiled, makes a creamy slightly sweet brew with a cafine kick. Very sought after.
Demon lands, outside the blessing, demons rule, normal people who remained here after the blessing are slaves to the demons for the most part, a few tough free-folk who elude the demons.
Big country in the south west of the continent of Halconiket that is war-like and corrupt. Not a kingcom, government is corrupt and cruel. Poor are persecuted and the corrupt rich keep getting richer. The authorities here execute those accused of being warlocks often without proof and rarely with a trial. When there are trials, they are typically corrupt.
Multiple religions. Some to the gods that perfomed the Blessing cerimony, some to other gods. Many atheists who belive the gods that performed the blessing aren't true gods, just beings in the world who have more magic power than the normal person.
Drama
Wizards versus warlocks. Magic against magic. Most powerful wizards work to find and eliminate warlocks. Some work to hunt and eliminate the monsters that inhabit the world. Others work to find and eliminate devils and their works. Warlocks sacrifice people to demons, but gain the most power from their patron demons when sacrificing wizards or anyone with magic power.
Devils work in the shadows to corrupt people, cause harm and sow discontent. They often work with warlocks to create nightmare monsters to terrorize parts of the Blessing, one just because the devils find it fun, but two, to smoke out wizards and expose any hidden that may not be powerful yet, or not have support systems, so the warlocks can capture them and sacrifice them.
Kingdoms and countrys fight amoung themselves. Some belive in the power of the gods as a whole, or at least support them as an official stance from their government, others do not. All are aware of the demon threat and for the most part work against demons, but sometimes that work and beliefe are corrupted and it does more harm than good. Sometimes a country will deny the evil of the demons, holding that the blessing and history is wrong and that demons aren't bad, just misunderstood, etc... but those countries usually fall in a few years due to their own hubris.
Powerful warlock of this age and powerful wizard of this age heading for a showdown.
The reason for the blessing not covering all the world is not know and no one knows what happened or why, and they don't question it.
Gods meant to seal off access to the world from both demons and gods, but, now just sealed off from gods and partially sealed off from demons.
Gods and demons from a different realm, their war spilled over into thei world eons ago. Not really gods or demons, just powerful magical beings from a differen realm. They came to this world and their magic began to infuse it and the people who lived here. Those beings called gods felt bad about invading this world and decided to provide protection against demons to them, not really out of the goodness of their hearts, but more because it showed they were magnanimous. Demons just wanted to consume all the people, resources, etc.. here, their only goal really to defeat their hated enemy, those knows here as gods.
Gods and demons not really different beings, just two warring factions of the same beings from a different realm. Their war made it so they cannot go fully back to where they came from.
