Summer Camp '23 Reading

Summer Camp 2023 Reading Challenge! This is my record of the reading and absorbing (?) of other Anvilites Summer Camp submissions. I hope I can provide some constructive criticism, but more importantly, I hope to learn from others to improve my ideas, writing and my use of WA in general!   My Summer Camp Commitment article, I went for Bronze but ended up with Diamond!: World Building Summer Camp 2023
The 3 prompts I will be reading and the articles I have chosen:
  1. A Destructive Natural or Supernatural Event: A Law.
  2. The Tournament of the Goddesses by Callyxtus (complete)
    Starfall Torrent by MONZOOBO (complete)
Turtle Island Doorway by Tarafaebelle (complete)
  3. Optional: A Species Known for its Mischievous Personality: A Species.
  4. Duskbunnies by Theiket (complete)
    Mandarin Otters by Rahjar (complete)
    Tatzelwyrm by Ebelt (complete)
  5. A Children's Tale or Song Based on a Real Event: A Myth.
  6. A Monster Without a Name by Nimsy (complete)
    Brave Burgermeister by EmilyArmstrong (complete)
Bye Bye Westerling by Cassie Storyweaver (complete)

My World Building Goals for the next 6 months:

1. Complete book 1 of The Minds of Gods and Demons and edit it with a goal to submit to publishers and self-publish on Amazon and any other platform I might be able to do so. 2. Continue adding to The Minds of Gods and Demons and plan out book two and three and make significant progress towards book 2. 3. Work on my collection of short stories for The House. 4. Add to The 13 Kingdoms of Strawthorn del Maire, my DnD 5e world in order to continue and improve the campaigns running there and perhaps make it available to others for their enjoyment. 5. Create and publish more One Shot and Short Campaigns in the world of Strawthorn del Maire. The Artifact was my first published One Shot and some folks seem to have liked it and I had a blast running it for a team building day at work, so more can't hurt, right?   My real big goal in the next 6 months is to work as much as I can on the novels I want to write, nay, will be writing, in the world of The Minds of Gods and Demons. Preliminary plans put it at at least 5 books, maybe more, depending on how the characters behave, but I have a feeling they may get out of hand and push me to 10 whole books! That would be fun. I am very happy with how WA is helping me do the planning for these books. The overall idea and where I want the stories to go are already formed and the details of each book are coming along. Its nice to see that some secondary and tertiary ideas are being spawned off the originals as well and I hope to keep it all organized in such a way that I can realize all of it. My dreams have been of the World of Rit and its inhabitants and the Gods and Demons that touch the world, and those that don't. WA is definitely helping me flesh out the world in ways I would never have thought of.   The first short story for The House is done, may need some editing, but I think it is pretty good as is. I am finding the second story harder and I have actually rewritten it twice already and will need to do so again now that I have a better idea of what I want the story to feel like. I have a really good idea of what I want the full collection to feel like and my first couple of attempts at the second short story just didn't fit the feel. I will keep trying. I have a better idea of how to use the tools in WA now, so am better able to record the ideas I have for more short stories in the collection. I sometimes have to work a bit at keeping them short though, I have a tendency to ramble and go into too much detail about some things, like smells and foods... I do that while DMing as well and my players sometimes have to bring me back from the edge in the middle of a 15 minute description of grilled mutton with charred radishes and candied yams... lol!

Congratulations on reaching all the way to diamond! Great job! And thank you so much for the read and feature of my children's story, I really appreciate it.   Looks like you have some really solid goals for your writing ahead and I wish you the best of luck with them. :) I'm sure you'll get there with the second short story in due time - maybe giving it a little break, working on one of your other pieces, and coming back to it with fresh eyes later could help?   ... And, oh man, yes, it's so easy to get lost in the minutea! Definitely feel you there - sometimes it's so hard to keep things short and sweet when there's so much to say about everything and nothing.
