The Herbalist's Guide to the Great Ring

The Herbalist's Guide is a volume of useful knowledge compiled by the keepers of the Kokoro no Tomodachi that describes many of the useful plants found around the Great Ring. It is known as Yūyō Shokubutsu no Kan by the monks, but in The Common Tongue it is more commonly called The Herbalist's Guide, or The Herbarium. It contains illustrations and descriptions of many of the useful plants that may be found by travelers. There are many revisions of the book with updates and corrections, and individual copies will frequently contain marginalia unique to a particular copy. Those who wish to acquire a copy may do so by traveling to Hōyoku and making an offering to the spirit of Kokoro no Tomodachi lighthouse - the keepers will then gift a copy of the text to the supplicant. This is only one of the tomes compiled and updated by the keepers of the lighthouse, who have adopted the accumulation and dissemination of information useful to the safety and success of travelers as a religous mission.

The Guide is organized by location, with a section for each island group that they have information for. Within each section is an illustrated entry for each plant or herb they have information about. Some copies have been broken apart by sailors who only cared about a particular region of the Ring, discarding or selling the other chapters. They are also frequently annotated with simple diagrams for the illiterate that suggest what ailments a particular plant may be used to treat.

The Arcaibh Islands

• The Arky Rose: When brewed into a tea, guarantees a deep and restful sleep
• Pearl-eyed Mushrooms: Found in the Coille Òran, these white mushrooms are said to induce prophetic hallucinations. 
• Unicorn Liverwort: Found at the peak of Beinn Aerthar on Motha, this can be used to neutralize poisons. It is only effective if collected with the blessing of Aonadharc.

Dzarbah

• Anabe Fruit: The flowers and fruit of the Anabe tree of Dzarbah contain a potent intoxicant that induces a sense of calm and pleasant dreams.

Fälsch

• Salzapfel: A salt-infused fruit that grows on certain trees in the floating forest of Fälsch that is said to confer extreme longevity.

The Middlesea

• Leechleaf Bush: This plant is extremely dangerous - do not approach it without taking precautions, and under no circumstances should you allow the needles touch your skin. The juice has commercial value, but the danger and difficulty of extracting it makes it impractical for everyday uses.
