Church of Thane

"And so the great creator stepped away, granting power and dominion to his chosen son, Thane: Lord of the Sun and all Humanity. And Thane took upon himself the throne of the heavens, and the holy choirs cried out in song." The Ascension of Thane - Third Book of the Holy Librum   To the followers of Thane, their deity is the appointed lord of all things, appointed by the Great Creator, embodiment of the sun, and patron humanity. He rules over all other deities as a divine feudal lord, and guides his followers to the heavens. He stands against the powers of darkness and damnation, keeping the doors of salvation open.

Divine Origins

Many scholars believe Thane was originally a regional god of a human group in southern Helvenia or Navis, possibly even originally a historic leader. Thane worship spread amongst humans in the midlands, until Thane was made part of the official unified pantheon of the Helvenic religion.   in 588 IH, the High Prophet of the Hellenic Pantheon decreed that Thane was the chosen leader of the gods, with all others subordinate (or in opposition) to him. While this caused wars at the time, it rallied many human lands to a common banner. The worship of Thane as an individual god has grown steadily ever since as humanity came to control more and more land, and as the unified pantheon lost followers.

Sects

The Imperial Church of Thane - Centered in Addam City . the Imperial Church is the most powerful Thanic religion in the modern world, and the one most commonly associated with Thanic worship. The church has a rigid heirarchy, and vast funding.   The Ministry of the Sun - Mainly found in rural Addam, the Ministry of the Sun is a fundamentalist sect of Thanism that focuses on Thane as the champion of humanity. The sect is deeply racist, holding all other species as divinely subordinate to humans.   Church of the Rivers - Another rural Addamian sect, the Church of the Rivers focuses on the charitable side of the religion, blending elements of Thanism and the Three Sisters together.    Royal Church of the Dragon Lord - The official religion of Helghest saw Thane and the other gods as Dragons, with Thane as the Platinum Dragon who ruled over all. While Helghest is no more, followers of the sect can still be found, with some worship gorwing in the counter-culture of Addam.
