Vebrathne

Their Ascendancy, Saviour of the Boparian People

The Vebrathne is the closest thing that the people of Renath have to a god on earth. They were born from the power of Vebrath, the goddess of order and civilization, many centuries ago to lead the otherwise landless people of Old Boparia to their new home. The Vebrathne has remained an important figure in the nation's religious and political life ever since.
It is decreed henceforth that the worship of Vebrath is to become the central religion of the people of the new nation. It is the will of the Goddess that the peoples of New Boparia that were thrown into chaos return to order under Her banner. I will it so, and so it shall be, inakshalei.
— the Vebrathne

Early Life

The Vebrathne's circumstances of birth were unknown, as they refuse to personally give information about this. Some say that they were a mortal raised to semi-divinity for good service to Vebrath. Others maintain that only the Goddess herself could create such a figure, and there is nothing mortal about them. Regardless, they first enter the records with the fall of Old Boparia.   In the diaspora that followed the destruction of the Necromage's Artifice, the Vebrathne arrived and led the scattered groups of Boparians towards the city of Verambopar, which became the capital of the new nation. While there was an attempt to have the new nation be either a democracy formed by local landowners or to install some kind of king, the religious presence of the Vebrathne meant that they were much more trustworthy. So the Vebrathne became the single ruler of the new theocracy, where worship of Vebrath (and the rest of the Gods) is law.

Blessed Rule

The following centuries saw the nation of New Boparia flower under the rule of the Vebrathne. Considered benevolent, if a little strict, they were entrusted with all major decisions. That isn't to say that the Vebrathne does everything unaided; while they are quite possibly an angel or demigod, they are hardly omniscient, and their decisions are motivated by careful reading of people and prudent justice.   The Vebrathne has contributed to the following reforms and laws:
  • The banning of the worship of the Powers within the nation of New Boparia;
  • The new system of taxation based on accumulated wealth rather than land or profession (unlike most other Renathian nations and
  • The introduction of farming grants and guild funding from the government to promote sustainable agriculture and strong industry in the very dry region of Boparia.
