Flora Fardaker

In the hall, you see the Lord Magistrate of the Gratic Empire talking to a woman in a long pink dress. The woman has fair skin, medium-length blond hair, and the dress shows off her shoulders. A pair of golden earrings twinkle in her ears as she speaks with him, her strong voice carrying the short distance of the hall. She stands tall, and you know without even asking that this woman has the bearing of a noble.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Flora was a wealthy landowner's daughter, born in the Deranti Forest town of Frelg near the end of a serious feud between her family, the Varténs, and the Kalims. At the conclusion of the conflict, her brother was wrongly executed for treason and the rest of her family was expelled from the town. They went to Gratic City, where they set up a shop selling rare magical plants, where Flora worked most days. At one point, her family was targeted by assassins sent by the Kalims and she was the only survivor. It was for the trial for the murderers that she ran into Ignelsio Fardaker, who was her attorney. The pair fell in love and when he was hired as first assistant to the Magistrate and later as the Magistrate himself, she went with him, getting married and having their child Gars. She then lived a life of peace and quiet, away from the feud that had defined her life.   The day that her husband was attacked in the marketplace, she was captured by bandits while riding in the countryside. Taken to their camp and held for ransom, she was rescued by the Drakeslayers and brought back to her husband.

Education

  • She received a basic education in reading, writing, history, and geography as a child.
  • Employment

  • She was raised working at a plant shop in Gratic City, although her roots are significantly more noble.
  • Years spent living alongside a Magistrate have given her some experience in that field, although her major task is the running of the household.
  • Mental Trauma

She continues to have a powerful fear of violence, having been forced to watch as her family were all taken from her by assassins and executioners. If she ever is a witness to violence, she will either scream or run as far away as she can, depending on the situation.

    Intellectual Characteristics

Flora has a keen mind, enjoying reading books and puzzling out riddles. This is one of the things that Ignelsio loves about her the most, even when she outsmarts him.   She's a bit of a spacial thinker, liking to take walks to clear her head and solve problems.

    Morality & Philosophy

Flora is a little paranoid, so she has viewed herself as a lone person against the world. This has coloured her relationships with nearly everyone, as she can easily believe that someone did something just to harm or spite her. At the same time, she doesn't like to make a fuss if she can help it.

    Taboos

  • She believes in the old tale of the man who got trapped in a tree after insulting the gods, so she never says a bad word about anyone as a precaution.
  • She can never be convinced to be violent towards another human being; if such a solution would be necessary, she would make someone else do it.
  • Personality Characteristics

    Motivation

Flora is interesting in making the most of the life she has, even if it wasn't the one she wanted when she was younger. Her days are spent making sure that the manor staff are doing all of their required jobs. She has an especially soft spot for Nib, the stableboy, as she often goes out riding.

    Savvies & Ineptitudes

  • Has a good knowledge of magical plants, although she will direct people to see Darantus Slénami in town for a more complete opinion on such things.
  • Has a good grounding in law due to living with a lawyer and statesman for much of her life.
  • Likes & Dislikes

  • Abhors violence and is very afraid of it.
  • Enjoys long walks and rides in the countryside.
  • Can often be found tending to her garden or reading there.
  • Virtues & Personality perks

  • Very strong-willed and a very hard bargainer, she won't budge from something once she sets her mind on it.
  • Is a pacifist.
  • Vices & Personality flaws

  • Can get uncharacteristically angry if the Kalims or her childhood are brought up, sometimes even calling the guards to throw out the person making the remarks.
  • If information comes to light that would allow her to exact revenge on the Kalims, she wouldn't hesitate to use it, maybe even going so far as to break the law.
  • Hygiene

Flora is obsessed with the cleanliness of the manor, and her eye for detail means that the place has to be kept spotless.

    Social

    Contacts & Relations

Flora is related to the Vartén trade family from Frelg, and thus an enemy of the Kalim family. She has access to some imperial organizations as the wife of a Magistrate, but this access is limited.

    Family Ties

Her parents and two brothers are dead, killed by the bloody feud that allowed her to meet Ignelsio. She still has a pair of cousins in exile in Lintin that she has never met, and an uncle who is a priest in Domiel.

    Religious Views

She is not especially religious, but she makes sure that Ignelsio makes time to go to services every other day as expected and would not ever speak badly of the Temple.

    Social Aptitude

She has a forcefulness and a confidence that made her many enemies in her youth but demonstrates the strength that got her through her childhood. She thinks highly of herself, but that isn't her ego but rather her pride in where she ended up in life. Her etiquette is impeccable.

    Mannerisms

  • She makes a habit of staring at the person she is talking to, sometimes a little too intently.
  • Hobbies & Pets

  • A good rider, she enjoys going on a ride or a long walk in the Gratican countryside.
  • The manor's garden is a place where can she often be found, reading a book or tending to the plants.
  • Speech

She has a forceful voice that is very clear.

    Wealth & Financial state

Being the wife of a Magistrate, she does not want for much at all. The manor is not decorated, but that is because Ignelsio likes to keep his money stored away for a rainy day or as Gars's inheritance. At the same time, he lets her buy new dresses, books, and plants for the garden when she wants them.
