Art Dagesti

Entering into the lower level of The Broken Tankard, you easily pick out the leader of the mercenary company that you were looking for. A small shock of outlandish pink hair sits atop a man who can only be described as forbidding. He easily towers over many of the other patrons at this place. His face sneers a little as you approach, his hands stroking his short brown beard in a curious manner. His grey clothing and brown cloak almost hide the giant black axe that is resting against his chair, and he grins eerily as you approach.   "Well," the tall man drawls in an accent that must be Essic-Llenic, "it is a pleasure to finally meet you. Art Dagesti at your service."

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Art is very physically imposing due to his height and his bulging muscles. He isn't horribly agile, but he does have relatively quick hands.

Facial Features

Art has a significant beard going, although its brown colour clashes with his otherwise pink hair.

Identifying Characteristics

He has several small tattoos of Essic phrases as well as his dyed hair.

Apparel & Accessories

He generally prefers dark colours, with dark grey clothing over his armour and the company's standard brown cloak.

Specialized Equipment

Although he doesn't keep it as clean, he carries his favourite black jagged axe. He also wears his armour composed of animal hide underneath his clothes.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Art Dagesti was born to a farming family near the capital of Essel in Essenburg. His parents were key members of the resistance to the rule of The Gratic Empire and he grew up hearing about the crimes of the Empire and their oppression of the Essic-Llenic people. The Essel Rebellion and its activities led to his parents being executed for treason and him being forced to run their farm himself - with the help of his three siblings, of course.   At one point, he decided to become like one of the heroes of Essic myth and went off to become an adventurer. After a few mishaps, he met the other members of what would become The Stalwart Shield. The four of them began to go on adventures together, and eventually made Gratic City their base of operations.

Intellectual Characteristics

Art has a very calculating and shrewd mind, with everything that comes at him being a problem that needs to be solved. He's not the cleverest member of the band, but he knows to approach and deal with his problems.

Morality & Philosophy

Art isn't an evil man, and those he associates with aren't either, but he is clearly uninterested in being the good guy all the time. He cheats at card games and he has a serious anger management problem.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Art wants the Stalwart Shield to become the most influential and powerful of the small mercenary companies of the Empire. To this end, he often can be found growing his company's list of contacts and performing tasks and jobs with the group.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Art has spent a large amount of time travelling the various regions and areas of Endaman and to that end is very knowledgeable about the plants and animals of many of those areas, as well as very good at running and hiking.   His tall height and frightening demeanour means that he is adept at get what he wants through intimidation.

Likes & Dislikes

Despite his love of playing - and cheating at - card games, he takes an immediate dislike to those who cheat at the same games.   Those who speak the Essic tongue near him find he enjoys hearing his native language and is more willing to converse with them.   He has a little bit of a bloodlust in battle, and he gets very unhappy if he is denied the honour of killing a monster or enemy.

Virtues & Personality perks

Art has a few good points:
  • His love of jokes which he uses to get people to trust him; and
  • A genuine wish to be of great service to the Empire.

Vices & Personality flaws

Art has a nasty side that he reserves for enemies and strangers:
  • A shrewdness and an aloof attitude that often puts other people off;
  • A need to prove himself and his company that gives him a violent competitiveness; and
  • A love of gambling and other hedonistic pursuits.

Hygiene

Art isn't very interested in hygiene, and he often has a sweaty or musky smell about him.

Social

Contacts & Relations

The Stalwart Shield has connections and relationships with many other mercenary companies and a long-standing relationship with the Imperial Council.

Family Ties

Art's three siblings still farm the family land outside of Essenburg, and he has plans to travel back to visit them soon.

Social Aptitude

Confidence seems to ooze from every pore on his body, and he has no qualms with interacting with people in social encounters. He has a high opinion of himself and his party, and he isn't afraid to show it. His manners are fairly decent, but he slips up often in that regard.

Hobbies & Pets

He can often be caught at a tavern or inn in his spare time, either trying to get new jobs for the Stalwart Shield or just playing a game of dice or cards with the various patrons.

Speech

His Essic accent is rather strong, so his voice sound rather gruff and drawling.

Wealth & Financial state

Art and his company store much of their gold in several banks located around the Empire, so he rarely has large amounts of coin on him at any one time. His contacts throughout the business world have given him a lifestyle that is to be envied, and he rarely wants for much of anything.
