Quyrie-Ève

Golden opulence and vibrant aesthetics are what define the people of Quyrie-Ève. From their homes among the forested mountains of the kingdom, the citizenry concern themselves greatly with appearance over substance; conforming to a trend or aesthetic is considered more important than how practical something is.   The Valéquyrie carry themselves with the utmost poise and maintain a quiet dignity as much as possible, in all aspects of their society. A solemn reverence to religious rites and practices has infiltrated government to the highest level and influences every facet of daily life.

Structure

Quyrie-Ève is an oligarchical unitary state, meaning the central government holds supreme power and is made up of a small elite defined by their wealth and status. A centrally-planned economy means that the government controls the production, distribution and price of goods, and there is little room for private ownership.   Members of the central government are elected internally, which is rampant with corruption and shady practices.

Geography & Climate

Most of the kingdom lies within subtropical zones and consists of subtropical evergreen forests and temperate mixed and deciduous forests. Much of the landscape is dominated by highlands and mountain ranges. Semi-arid steppes also occupy a smaller portion of Quyrie-Ève further inland, while to the south and along the coast, swathes of dense tropical rainforest can be seen.   In the southern region, mountains turn into hills and vast stretches of karst, areas where rocks have been carved and eroded forming intricate ravines, sinkholes and rock formations, as well as endless cave systems. These are predominantly made of limestone or marble.

Culture

The Valéquyrie that inhabit Quyrie-Ève are known for their extravagant culture, intricate politics and devout faith in the divine, as evidenced by the merging of politics and religion.   The core beliefs and values that govern the Valéquyrie primarily revolve around the worship of the gods and the leaders of the kingdom, who are believed to possess divine powers by virtue of their wealth and status. They act as intermediaries between their people and the gods, and are obligated to sustain the gods through rituals and offerings so that they can maintain order. The state dedicates enormous resources to religious rituals and to the construction of temples.   Individuals could interact with the gods for their own purposes, appealing for help through prayer or compelling the gods to act through magic. These practices are distinct from, but closely linked with, the formal rituals and institutions. Valéquyrian belief in the afterlife and the importance of funerary practices is shown through the great efforts made to ensure the survival of their souls after death – via the provision of tombs, grave goods and offerings to preserve the bodies and spirits of the deceased.   Music and dance are also fundamental to Valéquyrian culture, from popular entertainments to further exhibitions of wealth and status, to important religous ceremonies.   See here for more.

Public Agenda

The Valéquyrie place enormous importance on hygeine and appearance. Men and women shave their entire bodies for cleanliness; perfumes and aromatic ointments covered bad odors and soothed skin. Clothing is made from simple linen sheets that are bleached white or coloured in light, warm tones to contrast their deep blue or purple skin tones, and the upper classes wore plenty of jewelry and cosmetics.   Beliefs in the divine and in the afterlife are ingrained in Valéquyrian civilization and the ability to rule as a member of government is based on the divine right of kings. Both gods and divine rulers must often be appeased with offerings and prayers. The best thing one can do with their life is to amass success and wealth.

Assets

Control of vast forests and mountain ranges, combined with the fact that their economic system is entirely controlled by the elite in government, has meant that a substantial amount of wealth is enjoyed by the upper classes. Wood and minerals are valuable resources found throughout Quyrie-Ève, but a large part of the economy comes from taxation.
