While their companions continued to investigate the mystery at Kennmouth, Morrigan and Zelem were busy back at Saltmarsh.
The old cavalry captain Etmund seemed like one of their best candidates for replacing Eliander as captain of the guard, someone who could be manipulated into doing their bidding, so the duo decided to pay him another visit. In his quarters at the south wall, they discussed numerous matters of interest over a drink, learning a bit more of the rival adventuring group named the Company of the Scarlet Phoenix, and a merchant company of halflings named in Short Supply. Wishing to snoop around, Zelem had him "show him the sights" while Morrigan looked around his office. Inside one of his desk drawers, the old man had stashed a supply of Wolfsbane, giving some suspicions that he or someone he knew had possibly contacted lycanthropy. He also had a burned missive stamped with a red rooster on it, something to be investigated later.
After concluding with Etmund, Morrigan left to meet with her cousin Robin, whos initial suspicions seemed to be waning with Morrigans continued benign visits. It turned out that her cousins contract with the guard would soon be expiring, and after a lengthy conversion convinced her cousin and her orc lover Glasha to journey with Morrigan. She seemed hesitant to do this, but after some prodding decided that she could spare the time for some adventuring.
Zelem spent much of his freetime learning his new abilities and acquiring some spells from Mathias at the Art of Change. With these activities finished, the duo met back up and continued their exploits.
That night, it seemed like there was minor scuffle to the north of the Oweland estate. The guard had broken up a small crime ring named the 3rd street gang, led by someone named Marlin. Zelem and Morrigan learned that a dwarf named Thorar seemed to be one of the leading lieutenants under Eliander Fireborn, and decided to investigate him more.
Back at the barracks, Zelem used his new rat familiar to scout around the barracks under the heel of the guard. Inside he smelled the dwarfs scent from one of the rooms, and managed to scout around while he drank with the guard captain. After much difficulty, the rat managed to open one of the desk drawers and after some rooting around found an interesting paper, a wanted letter from a far-off town of Leafton. It had the name of Brulal Hammerfist, wanted for murder, but with a vague picture of a dwarf on it. The group guessed it might be him having fled from this crime, and the familiar managed to scramble towards the window with the note.
Later Priscilla seemed to wish to have another night with Zelem, and after meeting her at the inn she began to discuss some plans with him that the tiefling chose not to share the full story of with Morrigan (deliberately withheld from the recap). She also brought out a new drug that is very illegal in this area called Agony, and seemed to take a bit of a perverse pleasure in its use.
Morrigan met with her mother, who confided that next year she had no intention of running for reelection, with the difficulty of the station taking its toll. She hoped her daughter could win this position, and wished to setup a meeting with an associate of hers to help get this spot. She also managed to procure a few hats of disguise, that should aid Morrigan in future endeavors.
On the night of the full moon, Morrigan wished to please her nefarious god by making a sacrifice in her name. She sought out an unlucky victim, and happened upon none other than Lucky himself. Unfortunately it seemed his luck had run out, because in an attempt to subdue him Morrigan blasted him with necrotic energy and instantly killed the poor man. She threw him into the ocean, but a bewildered mermaid popped her head up wondering where this corpse had come from.
A bit later, Morrigan clubbed an unlucky woman and drug her body to the small standing stones, and when the full moon rose sacrificed her body to Hecate. In the meantime, Zelem decided to investigate
The next day, the other group returned victorious from Kennmouth. They relayed their story and success, and Morrigan bartered for the Hand of Saint Sidvela, hoping to corrupt it for her god. With that, the group prepared for their journey to the Cragmaw Castle where they hoped to use this success to convince Anders Solmor to be on their side.
