The Necrosis Zone

Written by Sterrestel

General Info

Most of Desius’ domain is modeled after a terran carnival. Where exactly they came upon this fascination is uncertain, however it is quite obvious they have done their research. There is only one small difference; Desius’ Carnival is cruel, just as terran carnivals were, however they have twisted it beyond imagination. With rides that instill fear, warped nixan creatures, and obliviously happy staff and customers, it is quite a different experience.

At the end of each day, Desius burns the entire carnival to the ground and rebuilds it; it never looks the same, although somehow it’s the same people that appear.

Desius does have a ‘trailer’ of sorts which is much bigger than it seems. At first glance, it is perfectly ordinary, with a costume closet, sofa, vanity, etc. Until you go through the curtain at the end, or open a cabinet that you shouldn’t. Desius keeps the souls of the people they trap there while they rebuild, as well as some other unmentionables.

Otherwise, they have an overly lavish bedroom with a massive walk-in closet, a pet tarine, and through another curtain, a massive nest for when they sleep in their spirit form.

Much of the Necrosis Zone has Nixan influence due to Desius’ ethnicity/heritage, although it is not obvious to an outsider.

Anima Grotto

Hidden deep within the Necrosis Zone, Anima Grotto is incredibly difficult to get to unless an individual knows exactly where the entrance is. After passing through the veil,  the grotto opens up into a massive cave; awash in natural light that streams down from openings in the ceiling, it is quite a sight to behold. Fantastical trees grow within the walls and on ledges, gaining nutrients from the sparkling waterfalls, which fills the space with a calming murmur of rushing water. The grotto is a safe pocket dimension given to Desius by Animos.

Carnival Attractions

The Big Top

This is, of course, the main attraction of the carnival, as well as Desius’ ‘dinner table’. Desius puts on their own shows within, where they show off their own creations, such as warped mortalis and fauna, or their own acrobatic skills. The tent is large enough for Desius to shift into their spirit form, a large red and black dragon, and can even open up to the sky to allow for a more impressive stage. They often trap their victims here, feeding on their hearts, flesh, bones, etc.

Teacups

Similar to the big top, the teacups are another endgame of the carnival. Once boarded, they will spin impossibly fast, causing the surrounding scenery to blur into color and sound. As the ride slows to a stop, visitors will notice an eerie silence, and as their senses return after a thrilling ride, the carnival will be revealed as its true self. With broken down rides, ripped tents, a sparkling night sky, and utter silence, visitors can wander aimlessly with a suffocating feel of absolute terror and loneliness pressing down on them from all sides.

Carousel

An extravagant carousel sits directly within the main entrance to the carnival. With vipals and other strange horse-like creatures to ride, the paintings seem almost a little too lifelike. Unknown to Desius’ victims, it is the type of ride one never gets off of. Instead, souls are dragged into the paintings and creatures themselves, lost to the carousel.

Ferris Wheel

The Ferris wheel is another prominent ride, towering higher than the rest at the back of the carnival. Painted with bright colors and lit by glowing bulbs, it is warm and inviting. Rather than moving in a circle, however, this ride takes an individual impossibly high until they rise above the clouds, the carnival disappearing below.

House of Horrors

The house of horrors includes a fun house, mirror maze, and Desius’ interactive museum. Unlike an expected carnival funhouse, this one has doors leading to deadly pits, dangerous creatures, and seems to go on forever. The additional mirror maze adds to this effect, sporting a rather friendly reflection, and a generous offer to stay with your loved ones forever. The museum consists of Desius’ most proud achievements, latest volunteers, and exciting creations.

Animals

Desius’ carnival also includes a wide variety of exotic creatures, such as their personal favorites, the tarine. Nixan creatures run wild without concerned staff chasing them down, and few yudryaen creatures exist that have not been warped to fit Desius’ desires.

Vendors

Just as with any carnival, there are games, food, clowns, and more endless entertainment. Harmless, luck-based games such as ring tosses and gambling are peppered in between rides. Betting on limbs is common, and prizes can be anything from a living doll to a small charm. The food is mouth-watering in both scent and appearance, causing visitors to continue to gorge themselves, or enchanting them with all sorts of crazy spells. Ingredients unknown.  Every visitor is given a personal, strangely familiar clown, guaranteed to scare them regardless of their existing fears. Each clown is also adept at making living balloon pets.

Staff

Staff are very accommodating and friendly, although it is uncertain what they actually do in regards to taking care of animals, rides, etc. Unfortunately, their words are most commonly utter nonsense. That is, if they can speak at all. Visitors are not allowed out of the carnival grounds, a rule strictly enforced by staff. Some staff members are almost normal, granting a bit of comfort to those who feel out of place. Among the staff are a few that have been touched by Desius. They will do anything to convince visitors to stay, often showing off their changes with pride.

Carnival-Goers

Of everything within Desius’ carnival, the crowds of carnival-goers are the only true illusions, with a few warped visitors mixed in. Each has a serene and happy smile on their face, eyes lacking life. They barely notice the horrid events and traumatizing  experiences of the carnival. Some warped visitors will act as if they are allies to those that are new, only to betray them in the end and drag them into Desius’ clutches.
