The Lifeblood of Alatheia

Energy is as ancient for Alatheia and Yudryae as fire is for Earth; needless to say, it has been around for as long as anyone can remember, including Nova herself.

Energy is quite literally the source of life in Alatheia. It runs through every mortalis, faunis, floris, and inanimate object. It powers cities, binds people together, creates storms, and makes up the very threads of the universe.

Alatheians have a strong awareness of this force. They can sense shifts in a person's energy, signaling emotions, gender expression, and more. Each individual has a unique energy color. Some are able to manipulate that energy, which is referred to as magic by other cultures.

Technological Use

Sources

Just under Yudryae’s surface are small pockets of energy sprites and crystals. These sprites produce energy by using the heat of the planet’s core and transforming it. Although the sprites do use it to live, they end up producing too much energy. This causes them to suffocate after only a day of production, meaning they have incredibly short natural lifespans.

Harvest

Sylan energy farms are a solution to both Yudryae’s need for energy, as well as the deaths of the sprites. By extracting excess energy from these underground pockets, sprites are given a chance at a longer life and Yurdryae is given a sustainable energy source. The sprites are also protected by the syl from predators which, due to large amounts of energy, attack often.

Storage

Once energy is harmlessly extracted from the sprites, it is stored in the crystals that are also found within the underground pockets. These crystals act as yudryaen batteries, storing energy for future use in powering entire cities and feeding other creatures.

Usage

Although 99% of Yudrae runs on energy, not all Yudryaens have enough energy to power their possessions themselves. Energy harvested and stored by the syl is generously given to all other yudryaens for a small price. Kinetic crystals embedded within buildings allow energy to safely travel throughout the planet without much loss to the atmosphere and smaller kinetic crystals are bought by yudryaens and kept to power their technology and homes.
