Writer's Ramble – May 2025
Here’s the lowdown on my May madness—savour it with a fresh cup of coffee (or three) before diving in:
My PC Meltdown
My PC died. Properly. The graphics card just… pop – and then no signal. Not good. I upgraded the GPU, CPU—the lot—and the fresh install went smoothly… until my hard drive decided it didn’t exist anymore. I spent ages remembering every programme I’d ever used (turns out I have far too many interests), and of course I lost all my notes in the process. Because why back up your scribbles when you can back up the entire multiverse?
Domestic Chaos
Meanwhile, life did its usual thing and tripped me up mid-update. The kitchen ceiling developed an interesting crack that ran from wall to wall; the landlord sent out a guy with polyfiller who promptly declined the job. So the plasterers came in, tore it all out, and now I’m cooking by lamplight while I wait for an electrician who may or may not turn up in the next few days. Lamps are great for cooking by—it’s like living in the past again. :P
Through it all, I’ve had coffee—endless, vibrating-with-caffeine coffee—and honestly, that’s been the lifeline. I try not to shake the keyboard when I type, but no promises.
So Far This May
- Gentle Hearth is done – say hello to cosy heaven, warm fires and a hug.
- MAGICAL GIRLS! The first draft of the main class is up for preview; you can expect the subclasses (archetypes) in the next few days.
What’s Next?
- Event to introduce Magical Girls – may or may not involve a suspicious furry friend and glitter…
- ThreadWalkers’ Guide (basically the PHB of The Last Home) – a long-running, slightly messy section covering character creation, thematic classes and core mechanics.
- Fey Wilds articles – a possible breather project, diving into “Mouse and the Crown” and the hidden realms.
Current Status
- Knackered, but oddly exhilarated.
- Coffee-fuelled, still vibrating.
- Life’s trundling along like an old bloke with two bum legs and no cane, but at least it’s moving in the right direction.
Thanks for sticking with me through hardware resurrections, ceiling overhauls and the occasional cosmic shrug of “well, that happened.” If you’ve left comments, sent memes or just hit “like” out of pity—I see you, and I appreciate you more than my resurrected PC appreciates a stable power feed.
Please:
- Ask questions.
- Drop messages.
- Remind me if I ever start calling myself “we” again.
Here’s to a more wired—and less wired-down—June.

I hope that there is nothing worse going on structurally and that your power is restored very soon. Also, I hope you didn't lose any really important files that you can't replace. Most importantly, keep at your hopes, dreams, and passions and don't let life's setbacks keep you set back for long.
Thanks matey much appreciated. We have power just no lighting in kitchen :) and I always end up cooking at weird hours :P
An extension cord and lamps will be your best friends then. ;D Gotta satisfy those midnight munchies.
