Vedism

Vedism is a very widespread religion within Northern  and Central Kovus.
Most Ephian Kingdoms practice or have a sympathy for Vedism.

Structure

Vedism is a more or less organized religion, with a council of priests, who call themselves 'fragments' coming from all over Kovus, to the Maidenstone, to discuss and debate theology and vote a new Highest Fragment in the next Great Collection, after the old one dies.

History

The general principle of the Vedist teachings seem to have been common and practized around the area before, but the teachings of Tulidin propelled them to new popularity. The Vedist popularity grew so much, that the Bishaan Queen Nikkal the Blessed converted and offered great support to the growing sect.
Tulidin was the first man to be called Highest Fragment, when he called the first Great Collection.
He died in 499, when he was murdered by a member of the Adorum to stop his growing influence. The murder of their greatest prophet only radicalized the Vedists, leading them to spread even faster and further than before.

Mythology & Lore

In Vedism, all life is godly. Humans are fragments of the God Kadilam and animals of Torvuk. Life is to be protected. In modern Vedism however the life of the nobles and high fragments is seen as worth more, then than of peasents and commoners. With the argument of being fragments of the head or the heart, the high society justifies sending hundres of "lower fragments" to their death, just as you would lose your finger if it would safe your life.

Cosmological Views

Vedists believe, the world was created when the Gods Kadilam and Torvuk decided to end their feud in a battle of creation.   Thus Torvuk created the earth and the seas, while Kadilam created the skies, plants and storms to rage on the oceans.
After they both had created as much as they could, their brother Mukvim was to decide, who won. But Mukvim was so astonished, by the beauty of the newly created world, that he did't want to decide whose creation was greater, seeing the beauty and worth in all created things.
But his brother Torvuk could not accept this answer, pressuring Mukvim into making a decision.
And so, Mukim decided. He ruled that the Earth and the seas where beautiful, but the life that Kadilam gave them trough the plants that grew on the ground and the storms that moved entire oceans was even more beautiful.
Torvuk was so enraged by this, that he attacked his brother Kadilam and both were mortaly wounded in the fight. Mukvim was so devastated by the loss of his two brothers that he mourned them for 1000 years. After that he took their lifeless bodies and created them into something else. From their remains their mourning brother Mukvim formed true life. He took the body of Torvuk and made animals from it, to roam the earth Torvuk had created and live and fight and die the way Torvuk had. From Kadilam he made man. He gave man the ability to think and speak and sea the beauty in life, as his brother Kadilam had, when he saw the barren earth Torvuk had made.
Then Mukvim rested and vowed to watch over the creation he and his brothers had made.

Priesthood

The faithful are guided by so called "fragments". Fragments have been tought by other fragments, what it means to be a true vedist and how one should life his life. Every 15 years the fragments gather at the Maidenstone to discuss theology and maybe vote a new high fragment, should the old one have passed away.

Sects

Kuti Vedism is a sect, that focuses on the equality of all humans, advocating peace and pacifism.   Mukism is another sect, that only accepts Mukvim as a god, due to the other two being dead. The concept of 'being part of a god' is also questioned by this believe, stating that the moment the two godly brothers died, they lost all godlyness.
