Poth’tox
Poth’tox are from a now-destroyed world originally known as Pi Boötis A-3, 317 light years from Sol in the constellation Boötes.
Poth'tox are shorter and squat compared to most sentients. They have shorter limbs, and a flat head. They have chameleon like skin which is especially quick and adaptive.
A few dozen ships of Poth'tox wander the known worlds. Each ship has about 3,000 people on it, and acts as an individual society as they try to find a new home world. Most Poth'tox wander the galaxy alone or in very small groups of 2-5 people. They often find jobs working for corporations of other species.
Poth'tox have most flexible lips of the advanced saurian races, and are able to speak common quite well. Though the tongue tends to elongate "s" and soft "c" sounds. Their wide throats make raspy "h", "l", "o", and "r" sounds.
See page 35 of The Last Parsec book for rules for poth'tox characters.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
Poth'tox females lay eggs in small clutches of 2-6. Most clutches are 3-4 eggs. They will raise the children in family units, similar to most warm-blooded species.
Growth Rate & Stages
The first two years of life, the infants move on all fours. They instinctively use their chameleon skin almost all the time when they are small. Pheromones only adult Poth'tox can sense are how parents are even able to find their young in many cases.
From ages 2-7, they grow quite rapidly. Becoming adults at the age of 7.
Ecology and Habitats
The home world of the poth'tox was rife with dangerous, and poisonous life forms that, even with their technology, the poth'tox were struggling to survive. This resulted in them barely escaping their planet ahead of biological annihilation, from these creatures. Apparently, they took the most drastic measures to protect themselves as a species, initiating a core fusion reaction that blew Pi Boötis A-3 to bits. Exactly who made that decision and caused the destruction of their homeworld is not entirely clear, but the wandering poth’tox generally regard it as a necessary action that preserved their species and culture.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Since the destruction of their home world, Poth'tox are solitary wanderers with no central government.
Civilization and Culture
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Poth'tox work well with other species. This is essentially required since they have no home world. They tend to obey local laws well, and adapt to other cultures. Not necessarily embracing the culture, but definitely show respect and are willing to take part, if invited.
