Maroon Palace

The crowning diamond of Ambrosia, the Maroon Palace looms over the entire city to its north-eastern end. Every noble house aspires to one day live within the Maroon Palace, and it is for this reason that the palace has been passed through the ownership of many leading noble houses of the dominion through many hundreds of years. The palace gets its name from the dull purple-red stone and marble used in its construction. It is a magnificent, gargantuan structure reminiscent of a massive cathedral fortress trimmed with gold.

Secrets and Security

The palace is heavily guarded by anywhere between two to three-hundred ever-vigilant Rosewarden guardsmen at any one time, and due to the numerous attempted assassinations on its owners both previous and current, the palace has been modified to include a number of secret entrances, exits, tunnels, chambers, and traps. Some have been blocked off and forgotten while others have been left to gather dust. Some are still in use to this day.   Some say that the Maroon Palace as seen amidst the city streets is just a small part of its true size and, much like a formidable iceberg, it is much larger beneath the surface. Throughout the centuries, secret, labyrinthine networks of these dungeons and chambers have been built over one another in a massive, underground complex that stretches far beneath the palace, some pathways of which connect with Ambrosia's vast grid of subterranean passages. It is not uncommon for these passes to be blocked off, built over, or demolished entirely.

Revelry and Politics

The Maroon Palace is the central gathering place for the Council of Commerce, the central governing body for the entirety of the Dominion of Indulgence. Council meetings take place behind closed doors within the tallest spire of the palace, which is often warded against Magic, both inside and out.   Politics does not happen within the palace's spires alone. Frequent ballroom galas and parties for the wealthy are thrown within the palace's halls where only the most well-known individuals from across the continent are invited. Most nobles would sell their soul to acquire such an invitation, as a chance to network and build relations at the Maroon Palace is a concrete way to secure influence and power.   Only those closest to the very height of power, Ignacio Al'Ganz, will find themselves involved within the Inner Circle, a small select grooup of the Maroon Palace’s many servants and employees rumored to engage in revelry and debauchery. Of course, most know that Ezria Ul'Patricia and Xelthia Al'Patricia are among these few.   The Palace's many hundreds of workers and servants are said to be paid each a handsome sum, and many are given free roam of the labyrinthine castle. Among its innumerable bedrooms, bathing chambers, dining halls, ballrooms, entertainment chambers, and more are some places of note:

The Maroon Gardens

The Maroon Gardens are said to be a beautiful and serene place filled with the most exotic and rare flowers money can buy. Some species of exceedingly rare flowers are only found in these gardens. The grounds are well-kept and patrolled by a number of Rosewarden Guards to prevent intruders, as the central path towards the palace winds through them. They are dutifully tended to and fiercely protected by Tuli Ul'Verda, as well as a number of maidens below her station. The gardens are host to a number of outdoor dinner parties during the summer months where powerful nobles converse and make connections over high-quality wine and high-class entertainment.

The Maroon Library

The Maroon Library is an expanse library located within the palace's well-guarded upper spires. It is renowned for its grand collection of magical tomes and historical records, many of which have been copied and recopied from the most ancient texts dating back thousands of years. Its collections are rigorously maintained and fiercely organized by the palace's master archivist and librarian, Eda Ul'Naireem, who runs an incredibly tight shift around its halls; woe to anyone who places a single tome out of line, lest they face her wrath.

Eda is also the primary tutor of Ezria Ul'Patricia and Xelthia Al'Patricia, educating them in politics, astronomy, history, and the magical arts. As such, the library also serves as a vast study and arcanium, and comes equipped with a stellar planarium that portrays the fluctuations, orbits, and the influnces of the Inner Planes and Outer Planes across the Materium.

The Maroon Forges

The Palace's armories deep within the forge are stocked with some of the most finely crafted weapons and armor that money can buy, in part thanks to the efforts of the forge-master of the Maroon Forges, Moira Rubyeye, a dwarven craftswoman like no other. Through her famed expertise in jewel-crafting and smithing, the Maroon Forges are the premiere place to commission high-quality blades and armor.

The Maroon Barracks

Located near the forges and armory are the Maroon Barracks. This is where much of the palace guard retires during shift changes. It includes a mess hall, many recreational living spaces, and the training grounds where sparring is common. Among the Rosewarden guard are those hired specifically as bodyguards by Ignacio Al'Ganz for important figures such as his Twin Consorts. Among these bodyguards are Keema Aul'Tuma and Akkal Aul'Kainus.

The Maroon Treasury

To think of all the wealth in the world would nary hold a candle to the amount of wealth rumored to be stored within the vaults of the Maroon Treasury deep within the very bowels of the Palace. Truth be told, none beyond the Palace's most trusted treasurers, such as Rizzik Ulskin, have seen the treasury vaults in person, but many would-be thieves and heisters tell of powerful golems and night-impenetrable magical wards that protect the vault's untold millions.
