Demon

The godly sorcerer, Yahweh, looked upon his once loyal seraphim legions with disdain and betrayal as they stood beside Lucifer, defiant in their convictions. He ordered Gabriel to weave such a curse as to transform them into what would eventually become demons.
Demons were once the numerous seraphim that comprised most of heaven's armies. After the Divine Civil War hundreds of thousands of years ago, they were transformed by Lucifer's curse. Today, they are the most numerous members of demon-kind. They are as diverse as they are adaptable and have widely varying tastes and morals. Across all three dominions, no two demons are alike, but a common trait found in all is pride in family and lineage, which is evident in the naming culture they propagated into widespread use across Ragnarok.
They are humanoid in appearance, standing slightly taller than humans, ranging from 5.5 to 6.5 feet, and are also slightly heavier. Their skin is covered in soft scales, particularly around the elbows, knees, shoulders, and other rough areas. Color varies, taking on vibrant hues across the spectrum. Demons also sport varying colors of luminescent, serpentine eyes and they have long, prehensile tails ending in a spaded tip. They have hairless legs like a faun or satyr ending in cloven hooves, and long, pointed ears.   Demons don't grow hair atop their scalps, as they instead possess a proud crest of hard scales shaped like a nasal helmet, with two symmetrical horns of varying length and shape sprouting from the front of their foreheads. However, it is not uncommon for males to grow facial hair.

A Wide Spectrum

Because of the three dominions of Doubt, Indulgence, and Torment, all demons are distinct from one another and are highly adaptable thanks to their history as the bedrock foundation of demon-kind. Over time, the three dominions have diverged into distinct cultures and brought with them demon populations. Over thousands of years, three distinct subcultures of demons have emerged, developing distinct behaviors, traits, and even appearances.   Demons of Doubt are typically more slender than their other counterparts, and the culture of Doubt has taught them quick-wittedness and creativity. Demons from Indulgence are incredibly charismatic, having developed a talent for silver-tongued, honeyed words. Demons from Torment are regimented, disciplined and have very little want for Indulgence's luxuries. Demons from Torment and Indulgence will often find themselves clashing culturally.

Demon Names

Demons take pride in naming their offspring. They typically take family names after great heroes of demon-kind that have either died or are still alive today.   Surnames have a very specific structure, with the first half of a name indicating the dominion of birthplace and the second half named after a figure a demon’s lineage has chosen to honor. Depending on the status of the family, the renown of a chosen figure can vary from a dear family friend to a great hero of demonkind who changed the course of history.   Each surname also includes a prefix depending on the dominion a demon was born in. A demon may choose to disown this prefix should they migrate to and live out their lives in a different dominion. Should this be the case, the surname takes on the prefix of the new dominion.   Male Names: Ignacio, Xartan, Verres, Vornoth, Tuzrol, Ashbane, Gravecrest, Lucien, Luxus

Demon Classes

Demons are a broad spectrum of many abilities and professions, and depending on which dominion a demon is from, they may choose to have become a charismatic rogue or bard from the Dominion of Indulgence, a disciplined barbarian, fighter, monk, or ranger from the Dominion of Torment, or even an estute artificer, sorcerer, wizard or warlock from the Dominion of Doubt. Paladins and clerics of demon-kind may gain their powers through force of will and determination. They might channel the power of the ley-lines from beneath the earth instead of divine Magic from a heavenly plane. Perhaps if they are bold enough, they may steal divine magic directly from the High Heavens in defiance of them. Demon clerics may act on reverence and respect to Lucifer or Patricia instead of dogmatic worship. Demon druids are uncommon, but might have spent time living among satyrs.
