Known History

Major events concerning the exploration and taming of the Known World.

Alien Era

A time beyond knowing; The season of blood and axes; A New God gestates in Janus

Period of calamity and jubilation in equal measure, as the survivors of Ur fight for a place in their new home.

  • Pre-Arrival
    The Destruction of Ysh'luhlua
    Disaster / Destruction

"..And a putrid stench enveloped the streets, as aphotic mists bestowed their irregular shadow   upon the very minds of the fragile people of Ysh 'luhlua. The cacophonous roar of the ocean's   power hailed upon Ysh 'luhlua's great, domed, cyclopean citadels, collapsing the beautiful   mosaics which had been pieced a thousand years before. The City of Ysh 'luhlua was swall-   owed by the great ocean god's tumultuous fury. All that remains now are the crumbling decrepit   archways of its brobdingnagian walls, whose stone remains unknown and untouched by modern men."   -Excerpt from "The Anthropological Writings of Dr. S.H Mogenstern", published by the Universitas Omniscia in 998, Age of Enlightenment

Their aim is the temple of Whitehall itself, and the priests who reside therein. The entirety of the elven clergy is slaughtered, their holy texts burned and all iconography of their already fading god is destroyed. The effect on elven culture is devastating and permanent.

    Heresy of Chork
    Era beginning/end

A large population of orcs in the town of Chork decry the theocracy of the Jantine Priesthood and burn their town's synagogue. The Jantine Priesthood send their sadistic excoriators to quell the revolt and the entire population of Chork is obliterated. Fear of similar reprisal polarizes the Known People into those who accept the Creed of Janus as their religion (whether truly or publicly), and those branded heretics who resist. So begins the Jantine Era.

Jantine Era

And lo, the great and terrible god Razæl spake and commanded the faithful to carry forth his light. And his people rejoiced, for their desire to save their brothers and sisters of the other races was strong. - The Creed of Janus

    Disaster / Destruction

With the rise of the new millennium, the bishopric of Janus attempt to depurate their conquered lands by identifying heretics among those who had ostensibly accepted the Creed of Janus after assimilation from other religions. Surviving Jantine records, fragmented and conservative at best, indicate that an estimated 1,800,000 were tried for assorted infractions during the three-and-a-half centuries of the Jantine witch hunts, of which between 900,000 and 1,000,000 were executed outright. Merciless torture was prominent in the extraction of theological confessions, usually resulting in mutilation, infection, and death.

Age of Enlightenment

1 ENL and beyond

Beginning with the sealing of the Universitas Omniscia and the ascension of Enoch, the Age of Enlightenment represents a departure from the overbearing superstitions of religion and an awakening of the scientific and industrial capacities of the Known People. While many spiritual and esoteric institutions are still in existence, their sway over the hearts and minds of the general population are weak and easily assimilated by the potent control mechanisms of Enochian propagandists.
