The Destruction of Ysh'luhlua

Disaster / Destruction

Pre-Arrival

"..And a putrid stench enveloped the streets, as aphotic mists bestowed their irregular shadow   upon the very minds of the fragile people of Ysh 'luhlua. The cacophonous roar of the ocean's   power hailed upon Ysh 'luhlua's great, domed, cyclopean citadels, collapsing the beautiful   mosaics which had been pieced a thousand years before. The City of Ysh 'luhlua was swall-   owed by the great ocean god's tumultuous fury. All that remains now are the crumbling decrepit   archways of its brobdingnagian walls, whose stone remains unknown and untouched by modern men."   -Excerpt from "The Anthropological Writings of Dr. S.H Mogenstern", published by the Universitas Omniscia in 998, Age of Enlightenment

According to Professor Mogenstern, during the Alien Era, long before the Arrival, the great city of Ysh'luhlua existed as the capital of a powerful kingdom, and supposedly was built upon vast deposits of invaluable metals. The city existed for thousands of years prior to scholarly writings of such monumental constructions, as it was assumed that such places would always remain, inviolable.   For reasons still unknown, the immense city of Ysh'luhlua was reduced to utter ruin and rubble within the span of a few horrific hours. A number of forces are mentioned in Mogenstern's writings of terrible mists wrought with abhorrent putrescence, and the fury of the ocean. The Devil Barnum is often considered to be the cause by any local folk who may have heard the legends of an ocean-maimed city. Few people have ever seen the ruins, Prof. Mogenstern being one of a select few. The journey by land is unforgiving and time-consuming, and the waters surrounding these ruins are so volatile that right-thinking sailors refuse to pass there. Many less cautious captains have been lost to the Sansori Gulf.
