The Sansori Gulf

Lost Sailors
Treacherous Storms
Deceptive Beauty

"...I urged the native sailors to take the alternate route on the map, which was obviously more efficient,   but the men took almost no notice of my ill-informed suggestion. The captain then shot me a look   of utmost austerity,"Only a fuckin' proselyte bastard like y'urself, would do somethin' tha' stupid. Ya'   wanna ge' ther' fast, boy? Take tha' lil' skiff over ther' and see how long ya last." The other salty   men laughed. It seemed, at the time, awfully strange that seasoned sailors feared such a peaceful looking   gulf. Using more tone than one should when speaking to sailors, "Well, what's wrong with it?   Are you all afraid of some tropical shallows?" I retorted frivolously.     The deck became very quiet. The crew looked at the captain, then at me, and then the captain again.   The sounds of the waves crashing against the bow were almost deafening during this awkward silence.   The captain's hoarse voice broke the thick silence, but did not relieve the tension.   "For very good reason, boy. Maybe they don' learn where y'ur from, but e'ry sailor 'round 'ere   knows tha' ther' would be no sure'er way to cer'mit suicide than sailin' through tha' gulf.   More men lost in those "tropical shallows" than can be counted." His graveness words were palpable,   and his eye's told unheard tales of lost men. I looked away, at the now ominous waters of the basin.   The mood became very grim. I didn't make anymore detour suggestions for the rest of the trip.   -Excerpt from the Journal of Thelonious Fink, the traveler. Year 2984, Exodus of Ur

Geography

The Sansori Gulf is considered to be more than averagely beautiful. The lush forests surrounding the gulf's rocky, short, beaches are dense with vegetation and wildlife. Yet, there is no influx of artists seeking beautiful scenery, or expeditionists attempting to syphon data from its many species. If it wasn't incredibly dangerous to traverse, the Sansori Gulf would be a high-traffic trade route, due to its location. Great mystery and fear surrounds the gulf, as myths, anecdotes, ancient and urban legends report hundreds of lost ships and their crews throughout time. The true nature of their disappearances remains unknown. The gulf is infamous for its horrendous storms, and blinding mists which are just a couple of reasons why sailors may become lost to such a treacherous place.   The Sansori Gulf also was once the location of the Great City of Ysh 'Luhlua which, according to legend, was destroyed by a massive storm which reduced the massive city to ruin in a few hours. According to the writings of S. H. Mogenstern, very little remains of the city, though he claims that parts of the city may remain protected underground.

Fauna & Flora

The Sansori Gulf is home to a plethora of life. There is a high density of aquatic life such as, sharks, and many different species of tropical fish. The variations of which the Observitas still struggles to identify. There is an equal density of terrestrial species, and an overwhelming number of insect species, so many in fact, that most them will never be identified or studied. This is also due to the fact that it is exceptionally unpleasant to travel in and around the area. Even the plants around the basin are dangerous, ranging from fire plants, devil snares, and number of carnivorous plants which can grow to formidable heights. The Sansori Gulf is home to many unknowns for those who seek them.
