The Holtlands
The Holtlands is one of the constituent regions of the Oathed Kingdom, on the continent of Vhurvia. Its name comes from the dense inland forests and the ancient Ereenese tribes who settled the lands long ago, the Holt clans. Along with Enkh, the Holtlands were formerly separate from the Lazanth kingdoms until the holy unification of the west and east came to be. House Lysander rules over the land from Deepwood Garth as Lords of the Holtlands.
Notable bannermen and noble families include houses Ashenford, Stem, Emstem, Ironbranch.
Though much of the forests within remain untouched, the local lords hold the natural wealth on the outskirts of the region. The Stony Slit, a port built on the sharp rocks along the southern Duskwater shore, is the only access to deep water in the Holtlands. In spite of being Murk Bay's ugly duckling, it grew into the gold pouch it is known today. Noble families operate iron mines in the northwest, deep within the Pillars, while other lords hold the eastern marshes and the Ereen's sacred pools.
Due to the strange and foreign organization of the Holtlands, poets sing of the mysteries which lie within the forests. Lazanth bards sing of the many western legends and bring back stories of wonder on their way back east. Strange are the paved roads in the Holtlands, and the Ereenese towns even stranger still.
Geography
The regions is located west of the Vinlands and stretches to the end of the realm, forming the kingdom's western frontier at the Rib Lakes. To the north, it is mostly separated from Murk Bay with a jagged and steep coastline.
In the center of the Holtlands is the Deepwood, a forest thickening where Deepwood Garth lies next to the Songriver. East of the Songriver leads to the sacred pools and Whitelake. The lake splits the region's entry points into the southern passage, Meadow's Clearing and the northern Wheatson Path.
Traveling south via the Goldroad, ignoring the western road altogether, leads to Enkh.
