Kormac Antyre
Duke Kormac Tahn Antyre (a.k.a. Rasp)
The head of House Antyre. Cunning, Old, Sick.
Kormac has been an advisor to King Eadvard III on and off for well over two decades, counselling him on matters of state and on maintaining good relations with the Antari Clans in the Highlands. He has also been quietly maneuvering to set up his heirs with similar positions within Eadvard's court... but has been countered by House Luneste's machinations. House Antyre is many things, but it is not a wealthy house, and Kormac has bitterly watched as Lunestan roots take hold in the heart of the Royal Court.
In time, he'd hoped to marry his sons to Dillestone daughters, to better set up his line to one day rule from Redehall themselves, and had even put forth his eldest son as a potential partner for Ragonde Luneste once she was legitimized as a bastard of Dillestone. Again, he was outmaneuvered by Luneste. Again, his resentment grew.
Now comes the summer fete of 1442. Once again, Kormac must paint a smile upon his face and breathe the same air as the courtiers and nobles that have outwitted him again and again, pouring their honeyed words into the ears of a King besotted with grief and drink. Every day, the rattle in his lungs grows worse. Rasp, they call him, after one of the crows that carries messages to the domain of Carrion. Soon, they say, he'll be little more that food for the Great Raven.
Soon, perhaps. But not today.
