Balboa Orbital Mining Facility
"Whoever controls the water and air controls Balboa Orbital"
The Balboa Orbital Mining Facility orbits Ceres, and was built by The United Nations of the Earth and Moon as a means to obtain invaluable metals and materials from the asteroid belt. The station is cylindrical in shape with a rotation that simulates around 1G. Mining vessels push large asteroids onto a path that parks them inside Balboa's "mouth" where it is then mined for any precious resources it contains, then dumped out the other end as the station moves along in its orbit. Smaller asteroids are mined by small crews of surface miners or deep core demo-specialists. The station is large and has four economic quadrants, ranging from poor Belters in slum-like conditions, to the wealthy Hephaestus Mining Company and UNEM leaders. On Balboa Orbital, the metals they collect are worth little, instead water and oxygen take the highest precedent.
