Bound to the Powers

Most Sighted are mere fodder for the Powers, but some people, by luck or by design, choose a different path. Some attract the interest of a Power, seemingly by being somehow aligned to that Power's interest. Those people are offered a choice, though many do not recognize that choice for what it is until much later, and by accepting that offer, they are bound to one of the Powers. Often this is a life or death proposition: do you choose to hunt that which hunts you, or do you accept your role as prey. Do you choose to let yourself die, or do you choose another to take your place. Sometimes it is less of an ultimatim: do you choose the life of an explorer, or do you live in comfort in your home city?
Those who make the choice become bound to a Power, opening their minds to its influence. Most who do so slowly lose their humanity, shedding their moral restraints and becoming willing servants of the Power and seeking to Manifest it directly into the world.
However, there are certain benefits to this bond. Those who are bound live longer, healthier lives - as long as they continue to feed the Power - inspiring fear or hope in others in accordance with their Power's needs. They lose the need for normal forms of sustenance, sometimes even sleep. And they grow more resistant to injury. Furthermore, they develop abilities associated with their chosen Power. Those bound to The Hunter gain the most blatant of these - the ability to grow claws and to command hunting beasts are the most common for such beings. Those bound to The Burning can command fire and heat to burn their victims. Servants of The Rot manifest infestations of insects or disease or other such creatures that attack with unusual ferocity.
Ultimately, the bound are doomed. Over time, as the bond to the Power grows, they must feed it more and more until eventually they cannot keep up and are consumed in turn. Or, they are consumed in the process of creating a Manifestation of their power, becoming a part of the fabric of reality in such places. The only escape from this is a premature fate, often at the hands of the Hunter's Guild, who are made up of those who are bound to the Powers but maintain enough of their own humanity to work to save others from their fate.
