The Raven Seer

Who is the Raven Seer?

The Raven Seer is the second most important rank within The Arkivon.
The Raven Seer, for all intent and purposes, is the second in command to the Steward of the Arkive, the all-powerful leader of the Arkivon.

According to traditions, the position was created to mirror the position of The White Seer.
The White Seer is the spiritual leader of the Clanlands and the second in command after The Thane of Alven.

The Raven Seer is the Arkivon's moral authority.
They usually rise through the ranks of one of the Arkivon's religious circles (most probably from the Circle of Diviners).

The Raven Seer is chosen by the elected Steward of the Arkive after a religious ritual, called The Raven's Choice.
A Raven Seer only serves under one Steward. When a new Steward is installed, they will proceed to pick a new Raven Seer.

The Raven Seer's primary function is to sanction and organise the religious rituals within the Arkivon.
Most importantly, they are also the last arbiter on questions of morality and probity among the Arkivens.

Over the years, the role of the Raven Seer has become more political and less religious.
This development in the Raven Seer's role has not escaped the attention of The Sanctuary whose often very pious members are wont to criticise the Arkivon for its perceived secularity.

What are the Raven Seer's responsabilities?

As part of their responsibilities, the Raven Seer oversees the following:

Rites and Rituals

As mentioned above, the Raven Seer sanctions and organises rites and rituals within the Arkivon.

Because of the Sanctuary's open criticisms of the Arkivon, the present Raven Seer, Kave Boulder, has been keen to promote and show off the Arkivon's piety.

One of Kave's first initiatives as Raven Seer was to revive a little-known religious spring festival - The Feast of Dyon.

The Arkivon has made a great show of the festival in Highfort (the capital city), sponsoring lavish offerings to the goddess Dyon, and making sure the population has a good time.

The Circles

The Raven Seer heads the religious, learning, scientific and judicial circles of the Arkivon, among them: the Library, The Circle of the Blaze and the Circle of Diviners.

As the moral authority of the Arkivon, the Raven Seer has the final say on matters of justice.
He can revoke a ruling from the Arkiven of Peace and their leader.
The Raven Seer can also free or pardon any prisoner as well as outcast an Arkiven from the Alven Clanlands.

Regarding literary and scientific endeavours, the Raven Seer can encourage or stop research in certain areas deemed morally unsuitable from a religious standpoint.
As Master of the Library, the Raven Seer is also one of the only Arkivens able to access the Rod Depository and the other restricted sections of the Hexagoyne Library.

Who is the present Raven Seer?

The present Raven Seer is a clansman from Clan Deeryant, Kave Boulder.
Kave is a very talented Rune Wielder.
He has the privilege of being one of the youngest clansmen to have passed the Marks and been sent to train at the Duns' Roost.

Kave's father was the very powerful and rich leader of Clan Deeryant, the late Nig Boulder.
Kave had been tutored and trained from a very early age to join the Arkivon and rise to a prominent position within it.

His father, Nig, was aware of Kave's potential from the start and the Deeryant Clanbearers have been counting on Kave to keep the Deeryants at the power breakers' table.

Kave has fulfilled his family's wishes and is now at the right hand of the Steward herself, Moss Glasstern.
His position was solidified when his younger brother, Reiver, married Moss' only daughter, Fountayn.

Kave is still ambitious for his clan, his allies and his family and will go to great lengths to establish the Deeryant Clanbearers in all sorts of positions of power within Highfort and the rest of the Clanlands.
