Arkiven of Peace

The Archive is a large organization at the center of political, cultural life in Alven. The many orders the Archive has created over the last three centuries since their creation have helped to maintain stability, peace, and prosperity among the Clans. One of the most important orders linked to the Archive is The Order of the Blaze . The Order of the Blaze has many functions but one of them is to investigate matters for a plaintiff. Against a modest fee, a trained Archivist of Peace will pursue inquiries on your behalf, find out if you have been wronged, who wronged you, and generally work towards a solution to your problem.

Qualifications

The entrance test to the Archive is reputed to be quite demanding. You can apply to join the archive from the age of seventeen, which is considered the age of adulthood in the clans. At seventeen, a young man can become the chieftain of his clan and is no longer regarded as a child. A woman can choose her path at that age as well. Many women who choose the path of the warrior will apply to join the archive and sit the test.   In every powerful family of the Clans, a son or a daughter will join the Archive. It is traditionally the second or third son or daughter of the family who will be following this path. To join the archive a young man or woman needs to have followed a solid program of tutoring from birth. The test requires a good knowledge of the traditions, sciences, and martial arts (maths, history, geography, religion, sword fighting, etc.)

Requirements

The difficulty in trying out for the entrance test is why young people from the lower echelons of Alven society will not usually be able to join the Archive. What is more, the entrance fee, which is not so high that it will deter the application of your average clansman or clanswoman, will be out of reach for the children of paupers.   The Archive will sometimes sponsor children from poorer families if they see potential in a child. There are several Orders in the world of Alven who over the last century have been created to tutor and train the promising children of the less fortunate families so they can pass the tests.   These Archivists are to be found not only in towns and cities but also in the more remote regions of Alven. They are training scouts looking to enroll and train the brightest and most unusual minds to become part of their organization when they are older. Some of the more prominent families of Alven do not agree with these new societal developments as they think it enables young men and women across Alven to rise above their station.   However, it was soon clear that this initiative benefited greatly both the economy and the running of the country. The potential talents of the clans were being discovered and nurtured and put to good use within the Archive and The Sanctuary. The Free Tutors, as they are called, have also been a great way to countermand the influence of other secret illegal organizations such as The Ambulant Men  in the poorest sections of the capital and other big cities of the Clanlands.   To become an Archivist of Peace, you will need to become a junior archivist first and thereafter, follow rigorous training. Only senior archivists can become Archivists of Peace as it is a very sensitive and difficult chosen career.

Appointment

There are only a certain number of Archivists of Peace within Alven. The Archive's register describes a total of thirty Archivists at any one time within the Clanlands. Archivists are sent to different regions of the lands to perform their duties. Some of the regions can be very remote and are not seen as attractive as the areas nearest the capital. However, an Archivist is always dedicated to the work of the organization and will willingly accept posts as far as the Eastern borders of Alven.

Duties

The duties of an Archivist of Peace is very diverse. An archivist can build a team of people around him or her. These people are called Abets and answers directly to the Archivist. The number of Abets will depend on the resources an Archivist can muster. An Archivist can take advantage of the deep coffers of the Archive, but these expenses need to be prior approved by the Secretaries. They also can use their personal wealth to fund their teams. Wealthy archivists can have big teams of Abets around them.   Summarily, the Archivist's duties would be:
  • accept inquiries from the clans and individual Alvenites regarding possible wrong done to their person or their interest
  • investigate and find out if claims made have any truth or founding
  • bring to the Thane's justice anyone who has contravened the Laws of the Thane.
  • This is a full-time job and Archivists rely heavily on their teams to provide legwork and information. There is also a long list of grievances in any Archivist's backlog, and inquiries might take some time to be tackled by the Archivists.
