al‑Taajir is a mid‑level merchant rank in the Merchant Republic of Sahraʾ, inhabited by the Qawm people. Al‑Taajir undertake long‑distance trade missions beyond Sahraʾ’s desert and jungle frontiers, exporting local goods—such as spices, textiles, and metals—and importing exotic wares to fuel the tent‑city bazaars. To attain the title, a prospective al‑Taajir must complete a minimum five‑year apprenticeship under a Kabira al‑Taajir sponsor and demonstrate proficiency in negotiation, logistics, and currency exchange. Once established, al‑Taajir may reinvest their profits and, with the patronage of a Kabira al‑Taajir, sponsor apprentices of their own or advance toward higher mercantile ranks by financing artisan workshops and caravans.
