Los Verdugos Organization in The Great Dust Bowl | World Anvil

Los Verdugos

Once a community of pre-war Mexican nationalists, they were cut off from their homeland after the Great War. When they realized that escaping the Dust Bowl would be nearly impossible, they came together to rely on their survivalist values and native traditions to build a new empire. They harvest the abundant energy made by the wind with large turbines, which powers their settlement without the need of outside sources. Hive-like adobe barracks house most of the population, providing year-round comfort and limitless building materials to expand.

Camped atop a radioactive reservoir, they provide much of the water to the rest of the Syndicate. Excellent hunters, trackers, and gun hands, they also end up acting as regular muscle and enforcers. This earns them their place in the hierarchy and infamy across the wastes, though it is not unheard of for them to freelance.

They are also the only organization to master wasteland animal husbandry, often riding giant mutated creatures into combat with brutal efficiency. Many prefer manual loading firearms for their reliability, though the favored weapon among their sharpshooters is a specialized pipe rifle with an adjustable chamber that allows them to fire a multitude of calibers. It is well known that a single shot from these desperados means ‘stop’. Those that ignore this warning rarely make it more than a few steps before realizing their mistake.

Allied

Though they stick to their own territories for the most part, combined operations are essential in ruling the region.

Allied

Enjoying the many saloons and cat houses at the Rad Farm, the Native Sons have no problems paying a water toll for access to the city.

Unofficial Truce

Although racial tensions keep a real respect from forming between these two factions, their similar ideas on law and self-reliance have led them to develop a relationship based on mutual gains. When disagreements do arise, it is not uncommon for a court procession to take place on neutral ground with both factions coming away with a satisfactory compromise.
