Tai'Ja - Pre-1498 RT

"Tai'ja. The largest, bustling port city of West Realm. Her name is known all throughout the major cities of the world."

The First World Guide

Demographics

Tai'ja, The Melting Pot

While Tai'ja is mainly a melting pot of cultures, the city is divided into the four cardinal regions by the ruling families. Each district within the city is inhabited by a wide variety of persons, but the majority of each area is dominated by kinsmen of those families and thereby the cultural appearance follows suite.

Government

United Plutocratic Monarchy

Tai'ja's governing system is quite unique in that it is ruled by five parties instead of a singular provincial head. Four of those parties are families with deep roots and grudges tied to the city. Each family controls one of the cardinal regions. If one family steps out of line and attempts to take over another's territory, the other parties step in and bring balance to the situation. Putting that family back in its place. The fifth party consists of a small, but extremely wealthy group of merchants who often are the deciding factor in the disputes between families.

Cardinal Districts

The northern region is controlled by the Yoshida Clan. The south by the Mussfani Family and the west by the Russians. The eastern region was once dominated by the Despona Family, but after the fall of the family's Head, the area has fallen into ruin.

Mercantile Central

The central hub of the city, Mercantile Central, is a neutral area for all of the families to meet. It is owned and run by the wealthy merchants of the city. This area is typically only traversed by the wealthy as access is only granted on the basis of affording the toll to get into the area.

Defences

The Walls

At the seaside, the city is surrounded by very tall and thick walls, used to protect the city from the torrential waters that often plague the region due to frequent storms. The walls have had little to do with protecting them from invaders thus far. The occasional sea beast will bare its fangs, often after it has been washed closer inland from a storm.

Industry & Trade

A City of Trade

Tai'ja finds herself the home to many skilled trades and professions. While Tai'ja has a limited number of natural resources, she collects goods from around the continent and crafts them into trade-worthy items. The city relies heavily on goods brought in from outside its walls in order to maintain a healthy economy. However, it seems that it could be classified as a majority consumer city.

Infrastructure

The Docks

At the southern side of Tai'ja is the port where all goods are imported and exported. The majority of foreign trade and exchange occurs in this area.
