The Wellspring

A naturally-occurring spring of sweet water that appears to have no source deeper within the demi-plane.   The spring appears in the form of a 10-foot diameter pipe, from which freshwater continuously flows. It lies in the center of a large lake, which drains into a small river system that eventually makes its way out to the void. No one has ever been able to travel all the way down through the pipe to see where the water originates, as the flow of water coming out of it is too strong, but some people theorize that this pipe is actually still connected to its original home plane and if you were able to travel down through the pipe, you would emerge in that other plane and other world.   There is actually decent fishing in the Wellspring lake, with a variety of material species of freshwater fish being represented. There are also a few small hamlet style settlements of Water Genasi, Sahuagin and Merfolk, who have fierce underwater territory wars, and also come down hard on people who pollute the purity of the lake. Organizations found dumping directly into the lake itself will often find themselves visited by groups of angry, heavily armed underwater folk bent on ensuring that the pollution will never happen again, sometimes by means of killing everyone responsible. Different groups do have different standards for what they consider pollution however; The Sahuagin actually appreciate it when animal carcasses and other corpses are dumped into their section of the water, and the Merfolk are particularly covetous of metal scrap.    Most of the waste of Shambletown is then usually directed to the river, which has been known to become choked with garbage and debris, causing floods and other problems in the downstream portions of Shambletown.    The river has also been used as a trial (or some say method of delayed execution) by various gangs and organizations in Shambletown . It starts slow, but narrows out and can be very fierce in places. If one is not able to escape the river before it hits the Edge, they will be quickly swept out into the void beyond, never to be seen again.
