Lament

Lament is a gloomy little village on the western edge of the Dead Wood. Nominally a part of the Frostryme duchy, few in the capitol of Crystalice would even recognize the name, let alone think that it was a part of their realm.   The village is anchored by a fortified cathedral dedicated to the faith of the Crossing .   The residents of this village live a hard scrabble existence. The threat of undead attack casts a palpable shadow over everything they do.

Government

The village is run by a three person council. It is headed by John Epine, the high priest of the church. Partec Lafin, captain of the watch, and the merchant Benton Tondue are the other members of the council.

Defences

All villagers keep a weapon close at hand in case of undead attack   The village also maintains a professional company of watchmen and scouts.

Industry & Trade

The village produces barely enough food to sustain its residents.   Brave and foolish individuals will venture into the Dead Woods to harvest corpse-wood to export to recklessly curious Loremasters.

Infrastructure

The main structure of the village is the cathedral. Well build and sturdy, it seems out of place next to the rest of the village. The villagers take refuge within its walls whenever undead attack.   The next notable building is the crematorium. This is the final destination of the dead and the undead of Lament.   There is an meadhall, but it is not the loud rambunctious place that an outsider might expect to find. The residents drink their ale quietly for the most part. Silently dulling their misery before seeking their beds. All this under the oppressive shadows of the Dead Woods.   The rest of the buildings in Lament are simple thatch structures.

In Lament everyone burns eventually. Dead or Undead, it don't matter. We all end up in the fires.
