Calatasshone Trading Company
History
The Calatasshone Trading Company was a commercial organisation formed by the Repuvian Knights of Calatasshone to hold a trade monopoly in the archipelago. The CTC was originally a joint stock company, publicly owned by each of the colonies. However, in 810 PT, the stocks were passed into the private ownership of the Commander-Ekattanai of each colony.
In 802 PT, the CTC began recruiting its soldiers and administrators from outside Calatasshone. It established an Officer School in Hesto.
The CTC held the monopoly on trade and production in the non-colonial lands in Calatasshone, constructing several new towns, factories, and plantations in the southern islands. The CTC made use of penal labour and enslaved Sourians to increase production on its plantations and mines.
The CTC engaged in mercantilism, extracting raw resources and exporting them to Hesto and cities in Quentar and Sylomia for processing. These goods were then brought back to Calatasshone to sell to colonists and Sours.
The CTC controlled the Colonial Navigation Board, a semi-independent body responsible for maintaining the waterways of the archipelago and engaging in anti-piracy patrols.
The CTC divided its holdings into Viceroyalties. In 836 PT, Honek Yurgher was made Viceroy of the Eastern Islands.
The CTC fought the Calatasshone Civil War against the Calatassi United Council and its colonial allies after tensions boiled over in 750 PT.
The CTC retained its monopoly until 854 PT, when it was dissolved by the Naval Commandery.
