Abendroth Empire

The Abendroth Empire is a large empire dominating the western reaches of the Fenris Tundra, and the north western foot hills of the Jabari Plains. Recently they acquired land in Duntaine as they conquered the dwarves of the Shivering Mountains, giving the empire access to the wealth and resources of that region, as well as a sturdy foot hold into the western most continent of the world.

Structure

The Abendroth Empire is ruled by King Dedrich Abendroth, he is the 17th ruler of the empire. He is personification of power craving, cold and calculating, he took the throne some 47 years ago and in that time created a handful of secret organizations and agencies to ensure that the power he dreamed for so long of having, will never leave his hands any time soon. Beneath the King are the Lords and High Lords of the empire. These two groups act as the regional and local rulers of the empire. High Lords rule over the major cities and settlement regions of the empire, of which there are eight primary regions. Within these regions are a handful of smaller land holdings owned and ruled by local Lords, who swear fealty to their High Lord and to the King. The settlements and towns within these Lord Lands are each ruled by a magistrate or Governor respectively. Along with the lord system, there are also advisers and regents that work in tandem with their given lord. In the case of the King there is the Grand Vizier and the Chief Regents of Coffers, War, Delegation, and Ships. They act as the legislative body along side the King in matters that affect the empire as a whole, though it is inevitably up to the King to finally make the laws. Each lord and High Lord has at least one regent and adviser and some have as much as ten advisers and three regents.   Several secret organizations exist within the confines of the empire, all of which serve either the crown or its interests, and all of which have a public counter part that covers the true motive of the given group. The largest and most notorious of these organizations is the Wissen Hexen or "Knowledge Witches". They are the King's personal spy network, they are his eyes, ears, and sometimes his blade in the dark. Dressed in all black their symbol is a black tome with a red eye at its center. Their legitimate counter part is the Office of Royal Affairs and The Crown Letter, a crown funded news organization. The Wissen Hexen are specialized in espionage and intel gathering both through conventional and arcane means, they are based out of a secure location in the northern most reaches of the empire and are rarely ever seen by regular citizens and those who do see them usually will have their memories of that encounter wiped in order to maintain the organizations secrecy. The Wissen Hexen are run by Eldric Wulf, the Arch-hexen and first spy master to the crown. The second of these organizations is the Council of Cyndr, an elite sector of the College of High Magic who advise the king on threats of arcane nature, and they protect the empire from these same threats. If a piece of unstable or dangerous magic can be captured or nullified before it has time to become a threat than it can be hypothesized that the Council of Cyndr has already begun to deal with it. The council is made up of nine core members who each specialize in a school of magic and one the Grand Master of the council who specializes in the higher and older uncharted forms of magic. These council heads each have their own subordinates and elite units within the organization and they work in tandem with each other to ensure the safety of the empire and to ensure that all forms of high grade magic are under the compete and total control of the council and by extension the empire. The King's hand or the Red Hand are the crown assassins and secret police, they work closely with the Wissen Hexen on many operations and even have similar uniforms, making it so that both organizations could be mistaken for each other, this gives a decent cover in the event that either sides agents are spotted by the citizenry. Their cover group is the crown guard, the king's personal body guards, and in many ways the Red Hand are like the King's shadow body guards, removing threats to his rule silently and discreetly while the flashy crown guard protect him for more public affairs.

Culture

The general populous of the empire lives in comfort and through government run news services and propaganda knows that the empire only wishes to ensure the security and safety of all its citizens and bring this prosperity to the rest of the world. Any news or information from the outside world is thoroughly vetted by the by the empire before it is then released to the people. The populous of the central cities and major thoroughfares are quite happy and enjoy much comfort and wealth, but the said cannot truly be said by those living in the fringes of the imperial territory or those who dwell in the colonies or occupied territories. Many in these places see a different side of the empire, an indifferent and corrupt side that while still offering the base comforts of the empire will gladly blackmail and take those comforts away at the slightest sign of dissent or resistance to the established mold of their society.

History

The empire hails its origin from Anthelm the Inventor, who broke free from his Veturstein Masters and created the Abendrothi dynasty. Legends tell that Anthelm was apprentice to the great Mage Smiths of the Abadi during the latter years of The Last Peace, he learned much of their craft in time and it is what lead him to become one of the greatest smiths within the newly formed kingdom of Veturstein. Anthelm secretly learned of Prejan Technology that allowed him to create automatons using the souls of the dead as a power source. It is unclear how this knowledge came to Anthelm but what is known is that he gave the knowledge to his fellow human slaves and created the Adendrothi Dynasty sparking the beginning of The Rebellion of Man. Using their army of metal men the Abendrothi drove out the western Abadi lords from their seats, pushing them further west across the Narrow Sea into Duntaine, here in the fields and mountainous plains of the Fenris Tundra the Abendrothi made their home.

Territories

The empire recently expanded its borders through an expansion war into both the Stelar-Etoile Heart Lands and the Shivering Mountains. These lands act as colonized territories used primarily for resource collection and as a strategic stepping off point for future expansion campaigns.

Technological Level

The Abendroth Empire is currently the most technologically advanced civilization in the world. They have recently developed the steam engine and coupled with their arcane machinery have been able to have heating systems, rudimentary electricity, and transportation capabilities that many nations within the larger world would think impossible.
