The Forest

Most of the faery realm is forest, and it is not stationary. Everything moves, and so there are no landmarks to help you find your way. The further you go from The Fair the darker and fuller of dangerous creatures it is. Many different Faerie creatures live in the forest.
The forest is ruled by the creatures in it, so as they move, and as the sun and moon and seasons all change, the forest changes to reflect them. Creatures, or fae, claim ownership of an area by Beating the bounds of the area they wish to claim. Then they are aligned to the forest and have influence over that area. The stronger they are, the bigger an area they can claim. The five courts and the fair are the largest areas in the forest.
The boundaries within the forest were like lines cutting through the different regions. Turning towards the Sunlight mound, she saw the bright sphere of their influence, affecting the trees in that direction. And the other way stood the fair, a mass of solid white against the green. But the forest, that was the delight. She followed all the tangles and twists in how it interlocked.
What you see is the innate essence that everything has. That is what we draw on when we use our glamour. In the forest, it is also a trap. It can pull you in and you will never escape, as you will be lost following the twists and turns within it.
Just look for the surface of the forest and feel for where there are vibrations. Those come from the fixed points - the fair, the mounds and the gates.

The trees were taller, darker, more twisty. The birds sang stridently, calling to each other to circle their prey. The light was starker and the shadows deeper.
