Session 016 - The Bridge Wedding

General Summary

The group reunites with Nicholas, who introduces them to a special guest, Feathereen, at Silverswan Lake. Feathereen offers Taryn a ride, but when Taryn offends her with her reluctance, Feathereen swims off in a huff, leaving Taryn, Klej, and Pippa on the shore. Feathereen engages each member of the group in thought-provoking conversations. She questions Lily about joy, prompts Meela to ponder her own existence, and presents Gahr Reigh with philosophical inquiries about time and the nature of his magic sword. Despite Gahr Reigh's reluctance to accept the sword's magical properties, Feathereen insists on its significance, leading to a playful exchange where Lily and Meela try to convince him otherwise. Amidst the banter, Meela tries to play matchmaker between Lily and Gahr Reigh, but Gahr Reigh remains oblivious to Lily's affections.   Feathereen turns her attention to Lily's true form and delves into her past, questioning her about her family's demise. Gahr Reigh interjects, emphasizing the importance of Lily's new family over her past, inadvertently friend-zoning her in the process. While Lily believes there's a romantic connection between them, Gahr Reigh remains convinced they're just close friends. As Taryn, Klej, and Pippa opt to take the children to Lost and Found, Klej discloses that his disappearance was to assist someone in need. Taryn presses for more details, but Klej maintains his silence, citing his order's commitment to anonymity. Suddenly, Taryn feels something land on her back. Klej and Pippa spot a displacer beast cub. Pippa instinctively draws her daggers, but Taryn intervenes, referring to Pippa as "Rabbit Lady." In a moment of confusion, Pippa accidentally jabs Taryn with the hilt of her dagger. Taryn explains their group's purpose to Dirlagraun, who inquires about the children's identities. Despite Pippa's encouragement, the children remain too scared to reveal their names, prompting Taryn to issue a threat. Meanwhile, the others finish their swan ride, with Gahr Reigh nearly revelling in the paperwork.   All the children's parents are located, except for Pud's. A dispute between Pippa and Lily culminates in Lily being taken away to see Mr. Witch and Mr. Light upon Dirlagraun hearing accusations of Lily poisoning Meela. Gahr Reigh endeavours to persuade Klej to accept Pud into his order, but learns they only admit winged acolytes. Pud gifts Meela a whistle audible only to Fae, expressing his aspiration to become a winged cleric when he grows up. Meela immediately starts blowing the whistle incessantly, causing Lily to experience a ringing in her ears. Despite Lily's attempt to alleviate the discomfort by removing her ears, Mr. Witch demands she put them back on for the impending trial.   Amid the chaos of Lily's trial, Gahr Reigh attempts to defend her by accusing Pippa of being drunk and fabricating lies, leading to a rift between them. Taryn intervenes, shifting blame onto Meela for foolishly consuming the mushroom. Lily argues that since the incident didn't occur at the carnival, she shouldn't be subject to trial there. In response to Lily's defiance, Mr. Light transforms her into a pig, prompting Gahr Reigh to leash her and hand her over to Meela. Lily, now a pig, starts munching on Mr. Light's shoes. Gahr Reigh decides the only way to reverse the transformation is to kill the pig. As he contemplates this, he hears a mysterious voice endorsing the idea. The voice cryptically hints at Gahr Reigh's lineage, leaving him disturbed and nauseated.   The voice persists, and Gahr Reigh denies the possibility of it being his father, who supposedly went out for a bag of milk. To Gahr Reigh's surprise, a bag of milk materializes on his shoulder, and Mr. Witch reveals himself as Gahr Reigh's father. Their confrontation escalates, with Gahr Reigh blaming Mr. Witch for abandoning him and Bahr Reigh. After a private conversation, Mr. Witch agrees to revive Bahr Reigh in exchange for Gahr Reigh's departure. Gahr Reigh emerges from the ordeal as "Gahr Reigh the Great," while Bahr Reigh is resurrected and places Gahr Reigh in a bag. Lily's initial distress turns into flirtatious excitement upon seeing Bahr Reigh.   Amidst revelations of Mr. Light's true identity as step-sky daddy, a new agreement is forged: either Mr. Light's alignment changes, or Bahr Reigh's mother is killed in exchange for Gahr Reigh's return. As tensions ease, Lily attempts to reconcile with Bahr Reigh, aiming to demonstrate that he was the favoured child. However, Meela remains wary of Bahr Reigh, positioning herself defensively between him and the others during their rest, while Pippa, still reeling from the ordeal, seeks solace in her newly acquired badge declaring her trauma.   As the heroes awaken, they find themselves on a mountainside overlooking a castle, standing alongside Squirt the oil can on a bridge. Squirt hails Bahr Reigh as a hero and bestows upon him a Cloak of Billowing, while Bahr Reigh summons his horse Maggie. Pippa's discomfort with Bahr Reigh's flamboyance leads her to vomit, but Lily seems quite taken with him. A commanding voice from the sky threatens to smite them, followed by a narrowly avoided lightning bolt. Nearby, two figures stand: an elf and a dandelion wielding a sword. Meela cheerfully approaches them, questioning if the bee hovering around the dandelion is bothersome. The dandelion reassures her, and the bee buzzes around her head.   The elf, a vivacious character, catches Bahr Reigh's attention. Lily, now adorned as a 17th-century noblewoman, presents the group as diplomats from the deceased King Illig's court, with the elf expressing interest in Lily. Lily and Bahr Reigh both kiss the elf's hand, prompting Taryn to be hailed as a brave hero. Meela inquires about the elf's identity, learning she is Gleam, who proposes a spur-of-the-moment wedding for Bahr Reigh and Lily, much to their amusement. Bahr Reigh gives Lily his signet ring as a temporary wedding band. Gleam gifts Taryn a jug of wine, leading to indulgence by Taryn, Pippa, and eventually Meela, who nearly stumbles off the bridge. Bahr Reigh, taking on a parental role, rescues Meela and lays down the rules of responsible drinking. With Gleam's assistance, Bahr Reigh formally adopts Meela, while Lilygrove Reigh intervenes, diluting the wine and imposing stricter rules. Gleam confides in the group about her plight: her shadow was severed by Endelyn, who also imprisoned her sister, Glister. She seeks their aid in confronting Endelyn, who fears her demise during an eclipse, symbolizing Gleam and Glister as the sun and the moon.   Meanwhile, Amidor the dandelion faces peril after releasing the bee, adding another layer of urgency to the group's quest. The mountains they find themselves in are inhabited by korreds, adding an element of danger to their surroundings. As they journey, they learn of the presence of an elf prince named Alagarthas, who has struck a bargain and is currently located at Fey Beacons. Lily and Bahr Reigh are immediately intrigued upon hearing about a prince being involved. They encounter Hurly, a bugbear who made a deal with Endelyn but now regrets it and seeks to break the agreement. Bahr Reigh proudly sports a badge commemorating his heroic act of saving Meela from falling off the bridge.   While traveling, Pippa attempts to slice Bahr Reigh's cloak, but he notices her actions. She quickly covers it up by pretending there was a loose thread. Bahr Reigh gallantly offers his horse to Lily, who eagerly accepts the offer and mounts the horse side-saddle, with Meela also being boosted up. After consuming a considerable amount of wine, Meela projectile vomits over Maggie, the horse, before passing out. Pippa spots a shadowy figure resembling an elongated goblin on the bridge, signalling imminent danger. The shadows attack suddenly, catching the group off guard. Pippa notices that her attacks seem less effective against one of the shadows. Klej blesses Taryn, Lily, and Bahr Reigh, while the shadows focus their assault on the group. Meela remains unconscious as the battle intensifies.   Despite the overwhelming odds, the group fights back valiantly, with Bahr Reigh using his sword and smite abilities to devastating effect. Klej's spells provide support, while Taryn's rage fuels her attacks. However, the shadows prove resilient, with new ones appearing to replace those defeated. Meela wakes up just in time to unleash a powerful Lightning Bolt, decimating the shadows. As they prepare to flee, Gleam and Amidor warn them to run if they encounter shadows again. Bahr Reigh places Lily over the horse, with Meela sitting atop her, as the party embarks on their next adventure, leaving the shadows behind.
